QuoteThe Others: 7 Sins is a horror board game for 2 to 5 players. One player controls one of the 7 Deadly Sins, employing monstrous incarnations of these corruptive forces in an attempt to consume the world and bring about the apocalypse. The rest of the players cooperate as heroes of the F.A.I.T.H. organization who will attempt to fight back the invasion!

This project is another collaboration involving the same team that created the smash hit Blood Rage: Eric Lang, who also designed other highly acclaimed games such as Chaos in the Old World, Arcadia Quest, and Dice Masters; Guillotine Games, the developers of the popular Zombicide series; Studio McVey, responsible for some of the best miniatures in board games today; and the amazingly evocative art of Adrian Smith, as well as other great artists such as Karl Kopinski, Stefan Kopinski, Paolo Parente, Miguel Coimbra, Jacopo Camagni, Richard Wright, and Georges Clarenko.

In The Others: 7 Sins, the world stands on the brink of apocalypse, as the fanatics of the Hell Club have summoned the 7 Deadly Sins to lay waste to our reality. Slowly the Others have creeped into our lives, corrupting society from within. The city of Haven is the key to their invasion, but it will not go down without a fight, thanks to the actions of the paranormal organization known as F.A.I.T.H. (Federal Authority for the Interdiction of Transdimensional Horrors). Each session of The Others is played with one player controlling the forces of a single Sin, against the other players who control a team of 7 FAITH heroes. The heroes cooperate to survive the Sin's attacks and accomplish the missions set before them, while the Sin attempts to thwart the heroes in all ways (preferably by destroying them).

The heroes are divided into different classes, each specialized in a different aspect of the game. Leaders are good at helping the other members of the team. Bruisers are excellent melee fighters. Snipers are experts at using guns to put down monsters from a distance. And Fixers have the resourcefulness and knowledge of the occult necessary to resolve supernatural crises that spread through the city. Each hero also has their own stats and unique abilities that set them apart from all others. Knowing when to bring in the right reinforcement can be key to FAITH's victory.

Corruption is one of the main mechanics of the game. It is both a way for the Sin to consume heroes, and a way for heroes to accomplish amazing feats they wouldn't be capable of normally. Taking corruption grants heroes powerful bonuses (as long as they keep taking corruption), but when they become fully corrupted, their darkest secrets may come back to haunt them and tear the team from within, or their flesh might simply succumb to the sinful influences.

The Sins player, on the other hand, has access to the different monsters of each Sin, including Abominations, a Controller, and the terrifying Avatar of Sin! These monsters can attempt to destroy the heroes, or simply hinder their progress on their missions. Each Sin provides the Sins Player with a different deck of Sins cards that can be played at different times to surprise players with different effects, often tied to the strategy of each Sin. Yes, because each Sin taints the game with an overarching mechanic that is always in effect. For example, Pride punishes prideful heroes that venture into the streets on their own, while Sloth punishes heroes who try to move quickly across the board. Heroes will need to learn to deal with the different influence of each Sin, which will always stand between them and their mission.

The Sins are also aided by Acolytes, with each session using a different type. These lowly corrupted servants of darkness can fight and stand in the way of heroes, but they also have a once per round special ability that reflects their previous lives. For example, corrupted hobos take equipment from heroes, corrupted nuns corrupt the city districts, and corrupted doctors keep heroes from healing.

There are 7 different stories that players can embark on for each session of The Others. Each of them brings different special rules, different dynamics, and a unique system of branching missions the heroes need to accomplish in order to be victorious. There are Terror stories, which are more straightforward, focusing on action and combat; Corruption stories revolve around the Corruption spreading through the city and the heroes themselves; and Redemption stories rely on saving the city and the few innocents that remain. Each story can be played on a different map setup, which further makes the dynamic of each session unique.

As the game progresses, and depending on how badly the heroes fare against storyline plot twists and developments, the Apocalypse Track will advance, making the Sins gradually stronger and more terrifying. Apocalypse cards, tied to the type of story being played (Terror, Corruption, or Redemption) introduce new twists and challenges to the game, even bringing in the members of the Hell Club themselves!

Heroes will die. Either in noble sacrifice, torn apart by claws and tentacles, or consumed by the corruption welling up in their souls. The question is whether the FAITH team will manage to fulfill their final mission in time, or whether the Sins will reign supreme over humanity.

1907 - You, a famous explorer, have just returned from the first expedition to the seventh continent, a mysterious land that was recently discovered off the coast of Antarctica and probably the very last terra incognita in the world.

You are recovering from your adventure when, whilst reading the day's newspaper, you realise that several other members of the expedition have disappeared suddenly, for unknown reasons. Coincidentally, you have been lethargic for a few days, feeling feverish and finding it very hard to manage even simple tasks. You must face the facts: an evil is consuming you from within. Your body is wracked with convulsions as you contemplate what mysterious ailment is overtaking you.

At nightfall, you fall into a restless sleep without knowing that, for you, another adventure is about to begin.

The 7th Continent is a cooperative exploration and survival board game with mechanics inspired by the adventure books where "you are the hero". On your own or in a team of up to 4 players, set off on an epic adventure and attempt to lift the curses that were placed upon you during your first expedition to the continent. Progress at your own pace through this mysterious land, building the board piece by piece with numbered Terrain and Event cards.

If you want to live through the many dangers of the 7th Continent and lift your curse, you will have to use all your survival skills: craft items, hunt and fish to get food, learn how to benefit from your environment, spend experience points to acquire new abilities, etc.

Unlike other board games, The 7th Continent will take you through many, MANY hours of adventure as you explore the continent to lift your curse... or die trying! To make this manageable, the game includes a simple yet effective save system that allows you to quickly interrupt the game at any time and have it ready for your next session, just like in a video game.

Play solo or in a team of up to 4 players,
Relive the sensation of the adventure books where "you are the hero" that thrilled so many of us in our childhood,
No dice rolls! Make difficult choices and face the consequences thanks to the game's innovative mechanics that determine success or failure!
1000+ 8cmx8cm cards with hundreds of original artworks,
1000+ minutes of thrilling adventure in a single game,
30 seconds to set-up the game, 30 seconds to save it!
Join the expedition partway through if you missed the beginning of the adventure or died prematurely,
Live a different adventure every time! There are dozens of random events and several alternatives for a single numbered card.
The game remembers your actions. If you kill a NPC, he will remain dead for the rest of the game and any option that you would have had by letting him live will be gone... forever!

Your goal? Find out how to lift the curses you have chosen and then purge your soul of them. Each curse offers a very different adventure and will take you to different places. Obtain what cannot be reached, find that which is forever hidden, achieve what cannot be achieved, etc.
Do you have what it takes?

You are now ready to begin your unexpected adventure. Similar to the books where "you are the hero", you will explore the continent by putting numbered Terrain and Permanent event cards into play, which will gradually form the game board. Forests, deserts, caves and mountains, you will visit dozens of different locations during your adventure and encounter random events that coincide with your location. To progress through the game, you will perform the actions available on the Terrain card you are standing on, the Event cards attached to it, the Character, Idea, State and Bonus cards in your hand and the Item cards in your inventory.

In order to perform these actions, you will use the Action Deck that contains your ideas and abilities and serves as your life force. Every action makes you draw a certain number of cards from the Action Deck. These cards provide a variable amount of successes and you must obtain a specified number of them in order to succeed. Failing at performing an action may have terrible consequences and cause you to get negative State cards, forcing you to discard cards from the Action Deck, therefore reducing your life force.

Want to stack the odds in your favour? You may choose to draw more cards from the Action Deck to get more achievements. However, every card in the Action Deck is a bit of your life force, so when the Action Deck is exhausted every action could be your last! Thankfully, you may add Idea cards to your hand when performing actions. Your Bonus, Item cards, and the help from your companions will make things easier for you. Especially when it comes to decreasing the number of cards you must draw to perform an action or by increasing your chances of succeeding.

The 7th Continent is a strange land with many paranormal events, hostile creatures and inhospitable locations. You will have to use your best survival skills to live through the many threats you will face in this land, and eventually lift your curses. Find or craft items to help you make it through risky situations or access locations that would be unreachable without them.  Find food, by hunting or fishing, in order to get back some life force, returning Action cards from the discard pile to your Action deck. Look carefully at your environment, it contains many clues and hidden numbers that can help you discover the Continent's secret locations. Boost your Action Deck with Advanced idea cards you can gain by spending the precious Experience points you have earned by the sweat of your brow.

And discover many other surprises along your journey!

Scythe starts this morning (in an hour). Copy limit is 3 and you can mix and match from the levels: $59 (basic which from what I've recently heard will be $80 at retail), $79 (with metal coins), $99 (with metal coins, realistic resource tokens and the larger board) and $119 (with everything already listed and the art book).

I have room for 2 more on my order and Jim can take 3.

prairieguy

I'll jump in at $59 for Scythe.  I'll be at BPs tonight and can pay you then if you're going to be there.

(I'm assuming you enjoyed it during playtesting if you're now plunking down cash for it.)
