JUDGES

Jon Oberlander
Jon first got into painting models/hobbying when he was 19 and the Home Hardware on 11th and Broad was shutting down. They had a bunch of Model Railroad stuff super cheap and he had always wanted a train. That rapidly expanded into 1/72 scale WWII models which tied together his interest of painting tiny things and military history. It wasn't until 2012 that he really got into painting war-gaming miniatures. He had tried his hand at it the odd time over the years but found there was a significant difference between the styles of painting and lost interest. However, when he began a new job in Regina he became good friends with some wargamers in the office. Looking for a new challenge (and a little pocket money) he offered to paint some things for them and it really took on a life of its own. He has been painting 40K stuff for 6 years now but mostly for other people. He is now looking at focusing on painting his own stuff. His focus is primarily 40K with some Age of Sigmar mixed in. He has grand designs on building and creating terrain. He tries to do something with the hobby at least every week and use brush, airbrush, acrylics, enamels and lacquers to varying degrees.

Derek Field
Derek Field started painting miniatures in 2013 with 40K Tau. He switched over to painting/playing Warmachine in 2014. He spent six months playing Warmachine at a friend's house before switching to the weekly gatherings at ComicReaders Downtown. He started REALLY diving into painting via the previous Privateer Press forums until that forum closed down. He has been learning techniques from the Privateer Press tutorials on Youtube ever since. His primary focus is his Protectorate army. His secondary focus is Star Wars Legion Imperials. His usual tooks are Army Painter brushes and primers, Citadel washes, and P3 paints.

Dan Snell
Dan joined the wargaming and miniatures painting community about five years ago, after a bit of pressure from friends and many years spent critiquing work for Regina military modelers. His first painting project was to complete an entire homebrew 40K Space Marines Chapter...this project is still ongoing as apparently no army is ever complete. Art has become a major hobby for Dan. He has visited a number of the best art galleries in Canada and Europe and enjoys traditional acrylic and oil painting, having taken classes and studied fine art and art history. His most recent work focused on portraiture.

Lareina Chan
Lareina Chan started painting miniatures nine years ago, starting with Warhammer 40K Tyranids but eventually expanding to Grey Knights and Orks. She has since assembled, painted and played numerous miniatures systems and board games, including D&D miniatures, Fallout: Wasteland Warfare, Gloomhaven, Kingdom Death: Monster, and most recently Batman: Gotham City Chronicles. She uses paints and painting supplies from several lines but also has experience painting with airbrush. Lareina is a member of ComicReaders' staff and has been responsible for the downtown store's 40K Escalation League.

QUESTIONS  / ANSWERS

Q: Do we bring our entries to Prairie Game Expo?
A: Yes, participants will bring or arrange to have their entries at the Saturday, May 11, 2019 Prairie Game Expo during the time for judging, which is 1pm to 3pm. Information about Prairie Game Expo can be found at the Prairie Game Expo forum on SaskGames. Participants are encouraged to post progress reports and pictures on the ComicReaders Downtown Painting Showcase Facebook Group.

Q: Is 'model' referring to a single base? Are 'dual' scenes allowed so long as the whole thing takes place on a single base?
A: "Model" is a single model on a single base. While a "scene" created with two or more models sounds super cool it is not the focus for this painting showcase. Something along those lines is something we could consider for a future painting showcase. Now in the case of a "model" like, for example, a Plague Marine that might have a little Nurgling with it on the base as per the kit it comes in--that is allowed.

Q: Do I have to declare the category / categories into which I am entering?
A: Yes, part of the registration process is to declare the categories / category into which you are entering. You do not have to tell us the models(s) being entered, though hobbyists are encouraged to post progress pictures on the ComicReaders Downtown Painting Showcase Group. Registration closes at the end of the day April 26.

Q: Do I have to declare the model(s) I am entering?
A: You do not have to tell us the models(s) being entered, though hobbyists are encouraged to post progress pictures on the ComicReaders Downtown Painting Showcase Group. The requirements for registration are your name and the category / categories being entered. Registration closes at the end of the day April 26.

Q: Do my models have to be finished and submitted before the deadline of April 26?
A: No. April 26 is the registration deadline. That is, the deadline for submitting your name and the categories into which you are entering. Your model(s) need to be finished in time for the May 11, 2019 Prairie Game Expo.
