Dragon's Maze Pre-release *Magic: The Gathering*

DESCRIPTION
The Dragon's Maze pre-release events allow you to experience the newest Magic: The Gathering set a week before it goes on sale.

ComicReaders Downtown is able to run a total of three pre-release events on Saturday, and three pre-release events on Sunday, if there is sufficient interest. The events are sealed events.

Guild Choice
Players will choose one of the ten guilds in Ravnica to represent during the Prerelease event. Once you choose a guild, you will receive a Prerelease Pack to build your deck and a corresponding guild button.

Each guild pack will have the guild of your choice and one of its ally guilds. Players will NOT be able to pre-register for or choose at the Pre-release event a specific guild and its ally. You can pre-register for or choose at the Pre-release event one guild. The ally that appears in the guild pack of your choice will be random.

Guild Prerelease Packs
Guild Prerelease Packs will contain; four (4) Dragon's Maze booster, one (1) Return to Ravnica guild booster and one (1) Gatecrash guild booster..

Implicit Maze Activity
In addition to the normal great play, players will be vying for their chosen guild to become the Implicit Maze Champion by completing the maze first! When you report your wins / losses to ComicReaders Downtown staff, we will note each players' match wins for each round as well as which Guild that player is representing. At the end of each round, ComicReaders Downtowns staff will tally up how many wins each Guild had. Wins will move the guilds through a map of a maze that will hang in the game room. All other Guilds will continue playing even after the first Guild completes the Maze since they can still earn a prize for reaching the end!

Promos/Prizes
None of the promotional cards are playable in the Prerelease.
~ "Champion of the Maze" PWP achievement code: For the members of the guild that finished the
Implicit Maze first.
~ "Mazerunner" PWP achievement code: For the members of any guild(s) that finished the
Implicit Maze AFTER the Champion of the Maze guild (does not go to the Champion guild).
~ Alternate Art land card: For any player that participated in the Implicit Maze activity.
~ Participation promo card: For any player that participated in the Dragon's Maze Prerelease.
~ Plus the usual prize pool of boosters packs!

GUILD REGISTRATION

ComicReaders Downtown will be taking pre-registration for the Dragon's Maze Pre-Release events. This is so players can choose their Guild in advance. There is no guarantee every player that pre-registers for a specific Guild will receive the Guild of their choice, but ComicReaders Downtown will do our best to acommodate requests. And, as mentioned above, you can choose 1 of the 10 guilds, but you cannot choose the allied guild. That ally will be random within your guild pack.

If you wish to pre-register...
Call (779-0900), email (readers2@sasktel.net) or respond to this post. We will need the following...
- Your first and last name
- The pre-release event(s) you are attending: Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, Saturday afternoon / evening, Sunday morning, Sunday afternoon, Sunday afternoon / evening.
- The Guild you wish to play

Our staff will maintain a spreadsheet of the pre-registrations.

DATE & TIME
Each Pre-Release event will end after 4 Rounds, regardless of the number of players involved. This is what is done at larger tournaments (such as regional and national events). This helps prevent player burnout, but also allows us to set a schedule for each pre-release event. The schedule you see below is tentative and is subject to change as we get develop these events further.

Due to the very large turnout for Gatecrash, I am considering holding the Saturday Dragon's Maze Pre-Release (and maybe even Sunday) at an external venue. This venue would be located in downtown Regina near ComicReaders Downtown. I am actively exploring that option in regards to cost, seating capacity, etc. So this makes pre-registration all the more important. If you are coming to the Dragon's Maze Prelease please let us know as soon as possible.

We stuffed 69 people into the store for Gatecrash. That meant all tables and all counter space was filled with players. I can't imagine this was comfortable for all players, and it sure was tough on the store staff to manage the event and help regular customers in the store. I think an external venue would make for a more organized and comfortable experience for players and event staff. And this is why I am exploring the option.

Keep an eye on this forum for more information as we get nearer to the event dates.

This event will NOT be held at an outside venue. It all happens at ComicReaders Downtown. Sounds like quite a few people will be in Calgary this weekend for the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo. We should have sufficient space to accommodate everyone.

Famous last words.

On the other hand, congratulations on another (technically if we had those missing regulars) record breaking prerelease. It was a lot of fun, despite my losing streak after the first event. We also had quite a few brand new players (new DCI numbers anyway) come out as well. I'm not sure if you have numbers on that but I think I saw at least 6. They seemed to have a good time so hopefully we will see them again.

ChadBoudreau

We had 60 players for our first event. Word around the tables was if we had the regulars that were in Calgary we would have had 70, which would have broken our Gatecrash record of 68.

Blake

Sorry, I meant entirely new players. Did you keep track of how many new DCI numbers were registered on the weekend?

ChadBoudreau

We had 5 new DCI on Saturday if memory serves me correctly. I'm not sure about Sunday, but I did see 2 new card stubs when I came in this morning.
