Cardfight Vanguard Tournament

DESCRIPTION
Cardfight Vanguard is a new trading card game from Japan that is quickly growing in popularity in Regina and throughout North America.

The basic premise is that the two players represent astral spirits dueling on the planet Cray. The cards in players' decks, called "units", represent characters from Cray that players can summon. Each unit has a name, clan, power level, shield value, one or more skills, and "grade", which ranges from 0 to 3. Overall strength of units increases with grade, but a unit can only be summoned if the player's vanguard is of that grade or higher. A deck must contain exactly 50 cards and 16 trigger units. There is otherwise no restriction on how many cards of a certain clan or grade must be used. [Description courtesy of Wikipedia].

This will be the first-ever Cardfight Vanguard Tournament at ComicReaders Downtown, but if it goes well and interest grows it certainly will not be the last.

There is no "official" tournament structure yet available in North America (or so I've been told by distributors) so, for now, the structure of the Tournament will be devised by ComicReaders Downtown, with input from the players.

For this event, players will be paired randomly by ComicReaders Downtown staff. Players will play the best 2 of 3, with the wins/losses to be reported to ComicReaders Downtown staff. Points will be awarded based on wins/losses. The next set of pairings will be based on the players' record. The number of rounds played will be determined by the number of players taking part in the Tournament.

A prize will be awarded to top player of the day.

A prize will be awarded to the player with the "best sportsmanship". This award is voted on by all players.

ComicReaders Downtown reserves the right to not award prizes if there is an insufficient number of players. (We need at least 8 players.)

Thanks to everyone that came out for ComicReaders Downtown's first Cardfight Vanguard tournament. We had 7 players. We did four rounds. Matches were best 2 out of 3 in each round. After four rounds, the top two players squared off in the playoff.

The final standings were as follows:

4. Matthew (tie)

5. Jacky
6. James

Jordan was undefeated going into the playoff against Daniel. Daniel gave Jordan his first loss, but Jordan took 2 of 3 games and thus took the #1 spot for the day.
