X-Wing: 75 Point Tournament

DESCRIPTION
Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game is a tactical ship-to-ship combat game in which players take control of powerful Rebel X-wings and nimble Imperial TIE fighters, facing them against each other in fast-paced space combat. Featuring stunningly detailed and painted miniatures, the X-Wing Miniatures Game recreates exciting Star Wars space combat throughout its several included scenarios. Select your crew, plan your maneuvers, and complete your mission!

ComicReaders Downtown is hosting our first ever X-Wing Tournament.

Squad
- The total point value of your squad (ship, pilot, upgrades, etc) cannot exceed 75 points.
- You must chose a faction. Rebel or Imperials. You cannot mix factions to build your squad.
- A squad list must be submitted when you arrive for the event. That means, no squad building when you arrive. Have your squad built in advance. The tournament organizer will review your squad.
- Bring the required components from the X-Wing core set-- maneuver dials, range rulers, asteroids, damage cards, etc.

Game Play
- Players will be randomly matched for the first round robin game. Additional pairings are based on your results from the previous games.
- There is 75 minute time limit per game. 15 minutes for set-up / deployment. 60 minutes for the game.
- The number of matches played is determined by the number of players. If we have 8 players, for example, there will be 3 rounds of games and then the final match between the top 2 players.
- A rule book will be on hand for reference, but two event organizers will be on hand for rule clarifications. If need be, the final say on rules will be provided by ComicReaders' Chad Boudreau, who plays X-Wing but is not participating in the event.
- Official Fantasy Flight Tournament rules can be found at http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/x-wing/support/faq/X-Wing-Tournament-Rules.pdf

Points
Match Win = 5 tournament points
Modified Match Win = 3 tournament points
Draw = 1 tournament point
Match Loss = 0 tournament points

Prizes
If we have 8 players, the prizes will be as follows:
- Top player: Medallion
- Top player and second place player: Set of acrylic stress tokens
- All participants: Y-Wing pilot card

If we have less than 8 players, all players will receive the Y-Wing pilot card and the stress tokens and medallion will be saved for another X-Wing event.

You need your own ships and the templates, dials, etc from the Core Set, but you don't need a lot of player experience. That said, this isn't a learning game-- we don't have the time to teach brand new players the basic rules of the game. You need to know the basic rules. Questions are always okay, but you can't walk in and expect to be taught how to play the game.

There will other events where we can actively teach the game to brand new players.

If you are a brand new player, you'd be welcome to watch the event. It would be a good way to learn the game.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

(Everyone signed up so far has their own ships, etc, and has played the game a handful of times. This is not a cut-throat, expert event. These events are meant to be fun for all. But, unfortunately, we can't teach brand new players.)

Ya, thats what i figured. Doesnt look like itd take long to learn but i prob wont have enough game time by then.

ComicReaders Downtown held its first 75 point X-Wing Tournament on Saturday, May 24, 2014. Thanks to everyone that attended. We had a few bumps along the way but this was our first tournament so thanks for everyone's patience. Also, big thanks to Bricktown (Chris) for running the event.

Here is how the competition played out...

3 X-Wing w/ pilot skill 4
1 R2 droid
1 R5-K6 droid
1 Proton Torpedo

James L
1 Firespray w/ Boba Fett
1 Ion Cannon
1 Proton Torpedo
1 Veteran Instinct
1 Proton Bomb

Tie Fighter w/ Dark Curse

Chris
2 Blue Squadron B-Wing Pilots
1 X-Wing with Wedge Antilles
1 Swarm Tactics

Round 1

James L vs Derek: Derek received 5 points for wiping out James. This was a retroactive win b/c the tournament organizer (ComicReaders Downtown) miscommunicated the rules in regards to playing out an in-progress game turn when the time limit was up. Derek's Millennium Falcon and James' Firespray were the only two ships left at the end of the game. In finishing the turn, Derek's Faclon took down the Firespray.

James M vs Chris: Chris received 5 points for destroying all of James M's ships.

Jon vs Breton: A modified win of 3 points was awarded to Jon. Neither side completely destroyed the other. Breton and Jon both took ships down, but when the squad points were added up at the end of the game it was Jon who came out on top.

Round 2

Chris vs Derek: 5 points for a full win awarded to Derek. If memory serves me correctly, Chris did manage to take down the Falcon.

Jon vs James L: James L's Firespray was removed from the game when part of its base left the playing area. (When any part of a ship's base leaves the playing surface it is considered to have "run away". With only one Tie Fighter left facing Jon's forces, James conceded to Jon. 5 points were awarded to Jon. (The two men continued the game for fun as if James' Firespray did not flee.)

James M vs Breton: 5 points for James.

Round 3

James M vs James L: James M given 5 points for taking down James L. (James L had some seriously skunking dice!)

Chris vs Breton: Chris awarded 5 points. Breton was shaken when Luke went down in the second round.

Jon vs Derek: Derek scores his third complete victory!

Final Results
1. Derek 15 points
2. Chris 10 points
3. James M 10 points
4. Jon 8 points
5. James L 0 points
6. Breton 0 points

Each player received an alternative art Gold Squadron Y-Wing Pilot card.

ComicReaders Downtown will run another 75 point X-Wing tournament in June and a 100 point tournament at Prairie Game Expo on June 28. Stay tuned to saskgames.com for more information in the very near future.
