Hi all,

You may have noticed that I haven't been posting the dates for Strategy Saturday as far in advance as I have in the past. I'm purposefully doing this in an attempt to be better at avoiding unforeseen scheduling conflicts. My goal is still to have the games night on the 2nd Saturday of the month. That said the tentative expectation is that November's date will be on the 18th and December's only two weeks later on the 2nd.  So there's a heads up for you all.

October's Strategy Saturday will be featuring the game Trickerion: Legends of Illusion. In this game players take on the roles of rival stage illusionists, each with their own strengths and characteristics. They are striving for fortune and fame in a competition hosted by a legendary magician, looking for a successor worthy of the mighty Trickerion Stone, which is fabled to grant supernatural power to its owner.

!!! If you have a game you'd like to play and draw some attention to, feel free to volunteer for future Feature Game slots. Just drop me a note and I'll see if we can't get your game in the spotlight.

Strategy Saturday will be at Argyle Road Baptist Church (3510 Argyle Rd) from 7pm to midnight.  As usual we'll have our snack counter open so feel free to contribute a drink or something to munch on.  And feel free to bring along friends (and to forward this invite).

    Hope you'll be there,

Hi All,

Labour Day is over and the world is right - the Riders vanquished the the Bombers ... and September's Strategy Saturday is this weekend.

The Feature Game is an older game but new to me. I've always been intrigue by Mystery of the Abbey and I was recently able to pick up a copy. In it players are seeking to solve a unsettling murder in a medieval Templar abbey. They must use their powers of deduction and intuition, supported by clever questioning, to uncover the guilty culprit. Think of it being a more sophisticated version of the classic game of Clue. This game has received excellent reviews so come on down and try your hand at some detective work.

Hi everyone,

Sorry this is a late email. Just finished holidays and I'm just now about to get back in the swing of things. So this month's note will be quick and sweet.

The Feature Game this Saturday is going to be Risk 2210. The classic game of Risk has been released in many cross-overs and themes over the years. This is the game that began it all. The future is grim and players have only 5 turns to muster their MODs (Machines of Destruction) and become the dominate leader of the earth and her moon and sea colonies. If you grew up playing Risk, you'll enjoy a trip down memory lane and the new twists that this version provides.

Hi everyone,

Welcome to July and the fantastic days of summer. However if history had taken a different turn, oh, say about 22 centuries earlier we would not be celebrating the month of July. No, it would have another name had the Punic Wars of antiquity turned out differently. The Punic Wars were between the cities of Rome and Carthage. Had Rome lost, no doubt its most famous citizen, Julius Caesar, would never had the opportunity to move through the pages of history and the month of July would not have received his name.

Hands in the Sea is a unique game that allows players to experience that first conflict between these two great ancient cities. It uses the mechanisms of deck building and card drafting to allow players to advance their faction's control of cities and towns in Sicily (the historical focus of this conflict) and the other major islands of the Western Mediterranean Sea. Players seek to build a deck that will enable them to battle, colonize, and conduct naval actions to achieve victory through a variety of paths such as having the most victory points or even capturing their opponent's capital.

Hands in the Sea is a game that is directly inspired by Martin Wallace's A Few Acres of Snow. Both games use much of the same concepts; if you've played "A Few Acres of Snow" you already have been introduced to 80% of the rules for "Hands in the Sea". These games are 2 player games and I don't usually feature 2 player games - I like the Feature Game to allow a number of participants. But we will have two copies of Hands in the Sea at Strategy Saturday as well as its inspiration, A Few Acres of Snow. So I encourage you to come down and try a new take on playing cards within a strategy games.

Hi everyone,

What is the final frontier? Well according to a famous American pop-culture franchise it is ... space!! At our June's games evening we will have the opportunity to take our first steps on that trek towards the stars.

BUT the June Feature Game is NOT Star Trek. No, the game of the month is going to be Leaving Earth. Players will find themselves on the cusp of a new age, the Space Age, where they turn the flying bombs of yesteryear into the rocket ships of tomorrow. As the director of a national space program, players will guide their country in search of success in this great contest. Be  the first to create an artificial satellite, send a probe to another planet, or even put a man on the moon. The question is who will be best at 'Leaving Earth'?

Hi everyone,

May is finely shaking off the last vestiges of our late spring.  Finally there is the return of greenery to our world. It's good to see the trees filling out and smelling the fresh grass being cut.

The May Feature Game will also be a returning to goodness. Pillars of the Earth is game inspired by the well known novel of the same title. In the game players are seeking to out contribute each other in the building of a medieval cathedral.  It is getting to be an older game now but it is still considered by many to be a one of the best examples of a game built around the 'worker placement' game mechanic. It is a good looking game that is relatively easy to learn and yet will offer some challenging game play.

Hi everyone,

April is here and it's looking like we are done with winter. On Thursday I saw a mature bald eagle perched in a tree along Highway #1. I still haven't seen my first robin but I'm feeling pretty confident that the snow it done. Life is so much nicer without snow.

Our April Feature Game is going to be The Manhattan Project: Energy Empire. In this game players take the role of nations building up industry, commerce, and government by acquiring resources, building structures, and tapping sources of energy. The challenge that players face in 'Energy Empire' is not war but uncertain global impacts that result from side effects of industrialization and pollution. This game has been well received and been nominated for a couple of awards.
