Commander Tournament *Magic: The Gathering*

DESCRIPTION
Commander is a variant within Magic: The Gathering. It can be played in multiplayer or 1-on-1, but the tournament will be a multiplayer tournament. If you are not familiar with the format but wish to take part in the tournament, you can read about the format at http://mtgcommander.net/rules.php.

ComicReaders Downtown is offering as a prize Commander's Arsenal, a very limited product from Wizards of the Coast, makers of Magic: The Gathering. You can learn more about this item at http://sales.starcitygames.com//category.php?cat=5247.

Players will be divided randomly into groups of 4 - 5 players (depending on the number of registrants). Points are awarded to players based on the Achievements they obtain during the course of the game. (The list of Achievements is posted below.) ComicReaders Downtown will randomly pick approximately half the Achievements to be used on the game day. Those Achievements will be picked just prior to the event. Point values for the Achievements will vary. Those point values will not be shared with players until the day of the event.

A ComicReaders Downtown staff member will be on-hand to monitor the games.

The prize: Commander's Arsenal will be opened by ComicReaders Downtown staff and all players will get to choose an item from the product. Top player gets first pick, second place player gets second pick, etc. In case of a tie for points, ComicReaders Downtown staff will randomly pick the selection order for those players. Depending on the number players, not all players may get an item from Commander's Arsenal. The product does, however, support approximately 30 players.

Please note that if you play a deck that allows you to "combo off" in four turns or less you will be disqualified and will be ineligible for prizes.

ComicReaders Downtown has never run an event of this sort before so we reserve the right to modify the event description at any point leading up to the game day. Any changes made will be posted on this forum and our Facebook page.

DATE & TIME
Sunday, December 2, 2012 at 12:00.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Example – Enigma Sphinx is an Artifact Creature; you must choose whether it will count for your Artifact or your Creature for this award.
- Resolve the third spell that starts with a third consecutive letter, one additional point to the player(s) that continues the chain. Example: Player A plays Storm Herd, Player B casts Terminate then Unsummon, then Player C casts Venser, then Player B casts Withered Wretch, Player B receives 2 points, and Player C receives 1 point.
- Resolve the third spell whose mana cost is the third number in a row, one additional point to the player(s) that continues the chain. Example: Player A plays Mogg Fanatic (CMC 1) then Vexing Shusher (CMC 2) then Player B resolves Volcanic Fallout (CMC 3) Player B would receive 1 point. If Player C then casts Chameleon Colossus (CMC 4), Player C would receive 1 point as well.

*** ChewsDay Challenge *** FoxMind Games Edition

What: The ChewsDay Challenge series of events is part of an initiative to host a public weekly game night that is welcoming to new members and is a way for people new to boardgames to experience a beginner friendly atmosphere. A opportunity for people new to designer board games or veterans of the hobby to come out, meet 'n' greet, and play some games.   This is held at a great location with full food and beverage service. Come on out and try some games.

The venue is also a great place for Wargamers and Strategy Gamers to come out and play a game. There are some titles that are hard to get to the table, let's try to get them the attention they deserve at a ChewsDay Challenge.

Where: North Albert St. Boston Pizza (Regina)

When: Every ChewsDay night of course, see date on this post for this particular event.

Who: Anyone interested in playing boardgames. The venue is suitable for many different styles of games: (Wargames, Euro Games, Crokinole, Chess, Go, Scrabble, Backgammon, etc.)

Why: Life is Short; Play Games!

Although not necessary, we urge you to post in this thread if you are coming and what games you might bring or would like to play. Prearranging some games helps get some of the harder titles to the table. Perhaps you have seen someone post about a game in THIS THREAD, this might be an opportunity to get them to bring out the game and show you.

If you are new to the gaming scene in the City of Regina, come on out and meet some others. Feel free to come a bit early and grab a bite to eat. See you there!!!  :excited

Without further adieu, here is the Game Hosts of the week:

THIS WEEK'S HOSTS: Chad Boudreau & Dana Tillusz

ComicReaders Downtown and ComicsReaders South have partnered with FoxMind Games in order to bring a selection of their games to the table. Several of the games are quick-playing so there is no need to sign-up in advance. Mingle, listen in, watch, and play the games you're interested in. For example, Dana and Chad are able to teach "Six" in six seconds!

There are lots of people bringing games out to play on ChewsDay Challenge Game Nights. To help attendees maximize their gaming experience we can help schedule games into slots for planning purposes. Post in the thread if you want to schedule a game and have folks sign up in advance. There are TWO basic time slots for this. 6:30pm time slot and 8:30pm. This is the start time for these games. They will be set up earlier. If you sign up for a game, please be there at least 15 minutes prior to start or your seat may be given to someone else. This is not mandatory, casual open gaming is still very much encouraged as well. Whether you wish to plan your game night or just show up and play it by ear, game on...
