Saskatchewan has a growing community of board game and role playing game designers. PGX supports local game designers showcase their games by hosting a "Game Design Corner" in which there will be demos and play tests of local designs featured throughout the day.

GAME: Checkbox Adventures!

DURATION: 60 minutes
1. tbrminsanity

Checkbox Adventures is a one-page, GM-less RPG. We discover the setting, characters and plot as we explore a fun, exciting story together in this quick, one-shot RPG! Onward to Adventure!

GAME: Pawn
DESIGNER: Thomas Boxall
START TIME: 12:30
DURATION: 60 minutes
1. Gloop

3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.

Pawn is a horror based, a storytelling-RPG hybrid game based in a setting where armageddon has been raging for over 4,000 years.  Most of the players take the role of Pawns (ie mortal humans), fighting for survival as the two Avatars (the GMs of the game) fight for control of sins and virtues in an effort to bring about Armageddon.

This session is the first playtest of Pawn. We will be testing two core mechanics: the Avatar card game mechanics and the Pawn RPG mechanics.  I'm looking for one player with GM/DM experience to help with the Avatar testing and at least 5 players to help with the Pawn testing.  Pawn testers do not need previous storytelling or RPG experience.

GAME: First Past the Post
DESIGNER: Derek Turner (lifeofturner)
START TIME: 2:00 PM
DURATION: 90-120 mins.
1. lifeofturner
2. Krazzy
3. tbrminsanity
4. Gloop

First Past the Post is a mid-weight strategic area control game based on the Canadian electoral system. The game has been in the works for a year, but this will be the first play test of the prototype. The game will likely take about an hour and a half to play - although it will likely be a bit laborious and buggy at times - and I will be looking for some productive feedback afterward.

We will be hosting an area at PGX devoted to role-playing games. If you would like to run a RPG event please let us know. Past games have included Pathfinder, Dungeons & Dragons, Star Wars, 3 6 9 & more!

GAME: Pathfinder
TEACHER: Saskatchewan Pathfinder Society
START TIME: 10:00am (Running All Day)
DURATION: up to 60 minutes per Scenario, multiple scenarios to play.
PLAYERS: 6 max. at a table
Games will start as spots fill up. No pre-registration required.

Pathfinder is a tabletop fantasy roleplaying game developed by Paizo. Characters are used to complete various adventures and scenarios to further their factions and the pathfinder organization. We accept groups of people or individuals that would like to test out pathfinder. If you choose to register for the organized play, your character will be valid to be used at any sanctioned Pathfinder events. It is a great way to jump into the world of roleplaying and easy to introduce new players. Each introduction scenario is developed for new players and the pre-generated characters used are easy to use. Tables can vary from 4 players to 6 and we will have multiple Game Masters available to assist. If you have any further questions feel free to email us at SaskatoonPFS@gmail.com

GAME: Chronicles of Darkness (New World of Darkness, 2nd Ed.) (http://theonyxpath.com/category/worlds/chroniclesofdarkness/)
TEACHER: bboileau
TIME: 9:00am - 12:00pm
DURATION: up to 75 minutes per Story.
PLAYERS: 5 max. at a table
Games will start as spots fill up. No pre-registration required, but early sign-ups are welcome! With the time slot for 3 hours, there will likely be two sessions—9:00am and 10:15am.

After an extensive overhaul of the concepts of the Classic World of Darkness, the Chronicles of Darkness (sometimes "CofD") was developed in 2004 with the release of the World of Darkness Rulebook, featuring a game of ordinary people who find themselves embroiled in the supernatural. More than a decade later, it remains a fan favorite supporting an incredible ten supporting lines, such as Vampire: The Requiem, Werewolf: The Forsaken, and more!

Session #1 (9:00am)
1. Davey (SteamPunch)
2.
3.
...

GAME: Dread RPG (https://dreadthegame.wordpress.com/about-dread-the-game/)
TEACHER: bboileau
TIME: 2:00pm - 5:00pm
DURATION: up to 60 minutes per Story.
PLAYERS: 5 max. at a table
Games will start as spots fill up. No pre-registration required, but early sign-ups are welcome! With the time slot for 3 hours, there will likely be three sessions on the hour.

Dread is a game of horror and hope. Those who play will participate in a mutual telling of an original macabre tale. The goal of Dread is to sustain the delicate atmosphere that invokes the hand quivering emotion that lends its name to the game. The thrill of a Dread game lies within the tension between desire and loss. You will take on the role of someone trapped in a story that is only as compelling as it is hostile—someone who will find themselves making decisions we hope never to face in real life.

It is the horror roleplaying game that uses Jenga® instead of dice. Pull from the tower and you succeed. Refuse to pull and you fail. The choice is yours. But if the tower falls . . .

Session #1 (2:00pm)
1. Breton
2.
3.
...

GAME: Call of Cthulhu RPG (http://www.chaosium.com/call-of-cthulhu-rpg/) (Dockside Dogs)
TEACHER: Cordawg
START TIME: 10:00am
DURATION: 120–240 minutes
PLAYERS: 3-6 players
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

Call of Cthulhu is a horror roleplaying game using the Basic Roleplaying system and based upon the writings of Howard Phillips Lovecraft and a few others. Lovecraft wrote during the 1920s and 1930s, and he became a cult figure before dying in 1937. Since then his stature as an author has grown, and now he is generally recognized as the major American horror-story writer of the twentieth century.

Scenario: A group of well-dressed criminals arrive at a warehouse to rendezvous after pulling off an extraordinary crime. They know each other only by their pseudonyms - Mister Black, Mister Red, Mister Green, Mister Purple, Mister Beige, Mister Silver, Mister Grey. The plan is simply to sit tight until midnight when someone will arrive to ferry them - and the loot - across the bay to make a final delivery to the boss. Sounds easy, right?

But things take a turn for the weird; strange things happen in and around the warehouse. Things which make the criminals doubt the allegiances of the compatriots, their own sanity, and ultimately the very nature of reality. It is going to be a long wait for the ferryman.

Dockside Dogs is a one-shot scenario for Call of Cthulhu. Three to six players take on the roles of the well-dressed criminals, hoping against all odds that they will make it through the night. Start time 5 pm so come on down and join in for the trip  to the dockside

I agree with bboileau's response but would like to add that if you have interest in Pathfinder you respond to this forum to express your interest. Seeing how much interest there is in advance helps the Pathfinder folks organise their day. That said, people are welcome to simply "drop in" for a session on the day of Prairie Game Expo.

In each game, you and your opponent will gather armies of miniatures and lead them into battle—blocks of infantry will maneuver for position, cavalry wings will wheel and slam into a weakened flank, and monstrous rune golems or carrion lancers will smash through formations of lesser warriors. Innovative command tools, two distinct factions, and countless ways to customize your experience combine to offer an unparalleled miniatures gaming experience in RuneWars. Finally, with forty-eight beautifully sculpted, unpainted figures, you'll be able to paint and customize your armies to bring an entirely unique touch to your games and enter the hobby of miniatures painting!

Hey guys I'm going to run call of cthulhu dockside dogs it's a scenario for 3-6  players
This was supposed to be a simple heist.
A group of well-dressed criminals arrive at a warehouse to rendezvous after pulling off an extraordinary crime.

I'm probably going to be there, it's too far in the future to confirm 100% yet. Among other things, I'll probably be bringing out Rum & Bones second tide and teaching that. Should I pick up two more expansions, I think it may even be possible to run a tourney or something. I dunno, just brainstorming at this point.

GAME: Agricola
TEACHER: milothewise [Nick]
START TIME: 9:30
DURATION: ~2 Hours, 30 minutes
# OF PLAYERS: 2-5

In Agricola, you're a farmer in a wooden shack with your spouse and little else. On a turn, you get to take only two actions, one for you and one for the spouse, from all the possibilities you'll find on a farm: collecting clay, wood, or stone; building fences; and so on. You might think about having kids in order to get more work accomplished, but first you need to expand your house. And what are you going to feed all the little rugrats?

GAME: Dungeon Lords
TEACHER: milothewise [Nick]
START TIME: 12:30
DURATION: ~3 Hours, 30 minutes
# OF PLAYERS: 2-4
A very involved worker-placement game where the winner is the evil genius with the most elaborate dungeon after 2 years of do-gooder adverturers pillaging your ill-gotten gains.

Have you ever ventured with party of heroes to conquer dungeons, gain pride, experiences and of course rich treasure? And has it ever occurred to you how hard it actually is to build and manage such underground complex filled with corridors and creatures? No? Well now you can try. Put yourself in role of the master of underground, summon your servants, dig complex of tunnels and rooms, set traps, hire creatures and try to stop filthy heroes from conquering and plundering your precious creation. We can guarantee you will look on dark corners, lairs and their inhabitant from completely different perspective!

I am posting to see if any Netrunner players would be interested in playing the Terminal Directive Campaign for Netrunner. I have a volunteer who is ready to oversee the event. It will take approximately 2 hours. Players would, ideally, need their own deck, including Terminal Directive. Nick (the volunteer) would have a copy of Terminal Directive, for demo purposes. If you are interested please reply to this post. If there is enough interest we will post the details. We do have the Terminal Directive organized play kit, which would provide each player with an exclusive promo card.

GAME: X-Wing: Star Wars Miniatures - Wave 1 to 3 101 Pt. Tournament
ORGANIZER: Derek Chow
START TIME: 10:00am
DURATION: 6 hours
PLAYERS: 10 player maximum
DETAILS: X-Wing will once again be featured at Prairie Game Expo.  This tournament will follow standard FFG X-Wing tourney rules with some special exceptions.  The player roster limit will be capped at 10 participants.  There will be 4 rounds of swiss played at 75 min. each in length.  We will stop and take a break after the second game for lunch.  To avoid anyone having to sit out in bye rounds, I will only play in the tournament if we have an odd number of entrants, otherwise I will be organizing and running a learn to play station as well.   A prize support kit for the tourney is being generously donated by ComicReaders downtown.  The exceptions to the standard tourney rules are as follows:

Wave 1 to 3 ships only

It is my intention to feature classic Star Wars ships from the original trilogy at this PGX.  Thus only ships from Waves 1 to 3 will be allowed to be fielded.  This means no scum, and a limited roster of Rebel and Imperial ships.  However, ship upgrade cards from any wave will still be legal.  A list of available ships to use are as follows:

Rebel:
T-65 X-Wing
Y-Wing
YT-1300 Freighter (Rebel pilots only, NO Resistance)
A-Wing
B-Wing
HWK-290

Imperial:
TIE Fighter
TIE Advanced
Slave 1 (Imperial pilots only, NO Scum)
TIE Interceptor
TIE Bomber
Lambda-Class Shuttle

101 Point Squads
Ever feel like you designed the perfect squad, only to find out it was 1 point over 100?  Well you won't have to worry about that here.  The squad point limit will be capped at 101 points instead of the standard 100 at this tournament.

To register for a spot in the tournament please post a reply in this PGX forum or on the Star Wars X-Wing Regina Facebook page (but not both!).  Pre-registration is not necessary to participate, but there is a limit of 10 players.

The dexterity game Ice Cool will be featured at Prairie Game Expo. This family-friendly game will be set up for most of the day.

Ice Cool is a flicking game in which each round one of the players takes the role of the Hall Monitor (also called "the Catcher") – his aim will be to catch each other penguin and get points for that. The others (also known as "Runners") will try to run through several doors, thus gaining fish (that give them points) on their way. When either the Hall Monitor has caught each other penguin once or any of the others has gone through all 3 doors that have fish on them, the round is over. Each player will take the role of the Hall Monitor once and at the end of the game the winner will be the one with the most points on their fish cards.

Plays 2 - 4 players.
Takes about 30 minutes to play.
Registration is not required.
A great way to start your Prairie Game Expo experience!

If there is absolutely NO interest in neither Talisman NOR Rum & Bones, then I'm tempted to hop in the X-Wing tourney. *HOWEVER*, I will wait 'til the day of or the day before to join up. So if it fills up before then, no big deal. I definitely don't want to take up a spot right now. Just expressing interest, since it's been *months* since I've played.

We will be testing two core mechanics; the Avatar card game mechanics, and the Pawn RPG mechanics.  I'm looking for one player with GM/DM experience to help with the Avatar testing and at least 5 players to help with the Pawn testing.  Pawn testers do not need previous storytelling or RPG experience.

As long as you can be creative on your feet, that is what I'm looking for.  Can you handle players that are actively trying to undermine your DM/GM story?

Alright, there doesn't seem to be enough interest in neither Rum & Bones nor Talisman (thanks for trying, Bryce) so I'm going to go ahead and cancel them. Sure, I could wait and see if people join up day of, but that's a lot of stuff to haul out on a maybe. I'm a fan of certainty. Sorry if this is a recurring theme of mine. In the meantime, since there still appears to be space left in X-Wing, I'll sign up for that instead.

Dumb question, but this includes pilots too, right? I feel like there's certain pilots (Like imperial aces, for example) that came out after those waves. Those are okay to use, yes?

Some more details on the Netrunner: Terminal Directive event -

This event will last around 2 hours. Players will be paired up and play around 4 games against each other.
As the event goes on, the player's goals may change somewhat - between games, participants will have an opportunity to change the cards in their decks.
For this event, cards from a single Core Set and the Terminal Directive set will be used.

You don't need to have your own cards, and it's fine if you're new to the game - there are enough pre-made decks for up to six people to participate.
ComicReaders Downtown has kindly lent a Terminal Directive set for use in this event.
ComicReaders Downtown has also supplied some promo cards, which will be given to participants over the course of the event.

For people who prefer a shorter game, there are some demo decks to try too, which would take around 30 minutes.
