If you would like to schedule a game. Please post in this event thread with the following information:
Name of the game, when you would like to start, The duration of the game, and the number of players it can accommodate.

Due to the overwhelming success of ChewsDay Challenge we might need to limit table space in the early evening if attendance is high and the restaurant is busy. We ask that larger-sized games be planned after Boston Pizza's dinner rush (7:30 and later) when we can spill out into the dining area, if needed, and with the restaurant's permission. Please be considerate when choosing your table area to maximize player density. Thank you for helping make ChewsDay Challenge a success!

On October 21 at 6:30 I'd like to run a six-player game of Paranoia.  Please book 150 minutes although it's hard to know exactly how much time we'll need :)

From BGG:

"Stay Alert! Trust no one! Keep your laser handy!"

"Greetings Citizen!"

Paranoia is the RPG that turned RPGs on their head. Instead of players co-operating on their adventures, in Paranoia they actively betray, lie, cheat and kill each other numerous times...accidently of course. The main aim of the game is comedy.

The game is set in a post-nuclear holocaust future of domed cities run by mega-computers. The players are Troubleshooters, clones with five other siblings who quickly step in when they are killed (nobody last very long in Paranoia). The PCs and NPCs live in an extremely strict colour coded hierarchy of Security Clearance, with Infra-Red submissive to Orange, which answers to Yellow and so on. Everybody, and I mean everybody, is insanely paranoid. The slightest mistake, the merest hint of treachery, could mean immediate execution. Because inside the dome, nobody knows that the war with the Commies was over centuries ago.

Players are subjected to constant propoganda 'The Computer Is Your Friend', encouraged to inform on their colleagues in special recording booths (which often broadcast the message by mistake), are given strange equipment without proper instructions, take pills, hide their secret allegiances and mutations and generally desperately try to survive.

The adventures are hopeless, ill-informed, pointless and suicidal missions which open with a briefing and end with a de-briefing, a golden opportunity to grass up the other players with highly subjective reports.

Being promoted to Orange Clearance gives a player enormous control over the others. Defying an order is Treason = immediate execution.

The GM is directly encouraged to kill PCs on any whim. PCs should be accused of Treason constantly, kept in ignorance and fear and generally shouted at and trampled on at all times (it's okay, they love it). To quote the rules "Ignorance. Fear. Fear and ignornace. Dedicate yourself to these principles." As it says on the back cover, Catch-22 meets 1984!

First edition is a box set and contains mostly GM information; players are not encouraged to buy the rules or read the source material. In first edition there are a lot of rules, and the game is under West End Games d6 system, but you can mostly ignore them and run the game how you like. The GM can simply roll a bunch of dice behind a screen and say whatever they want anyway. All part of the paranoia. It's worth reading the book to immerse yourself in the theme and setting. There are lots of good catch phrases and tricks to pull on players.

The game really suits experienced RPG players. New players will not enjoy the game so much without the comparison to a normal RPG.

THE COMPUTER IS YOUR FRIEND!

Citizen, you are not authorized to read this. Please report to the nearest termination center. Thank you.
===
Citizens!

The Computer is your friend.  You are happy!  Happy people are good people.  Good people do service for their friend, the Computer!

You are a new Troubleshooter!  You are security clearance RED!  You are happy!  You are proud.  The Computer has trusted you!  You have met five other new Troubleshooters!  They are also security clearance RED!  They are happy!

You will be tasked with a mission that is critical to the Computer!  You are honoured to serve the Computer!  Failure to serve the Computer is treason!  You are happy!  If you are unhappy the computer has medication that will make you happy!

===

If you've had any exposure to any RPG ever, you should have a blast playing Paranoia.  It's a very lighthearted game with an intentionally high mortality rate.  Your character is paranoid - or is he?  Perhaps everyone really is out to get him!  You will receive a simple mission from the Computer.  Some of you may also be mutants.  Mutants are treasonous!  Some of you may also be members of secret societies.  Secret societies often have their own private missions.  Being a member of a secret society is treasonous!

The game play is pretty light and fluffy, and while I run the game a little more seriously than some do (killing your fellow adventurers for fun is punishable :) ), the game is an absolute blast to play.  Every player will have six identical clones, so even death won't interrupt the fun!  Your next clone will report shortly...

Bring a writing instrument and a clipboard, and if you like, your own percentile dice.

We'll likely play 1st Edition (mostly because I have lots of material for it) but I have Paranoia XP available as well.

As long as you understand what serious roleplaying would be like you'll understand the humour in Paranoia.  Shall we slot you in?

2 players for Paranoia... room for 4 more.  Beginners to RPGing welcome.  Just understand that this isn't a serious game like D&D.  :)

I'll pick a scenario over the weekend and can give a little more direction.  I'll provide pregenerated characters to increase the amount of time everyone actually has to play.  Expect about 15-20 minutes for orientation with the game (including a couple of minutes with each player to explain the main aspects of their character).

There's no need to study in advance about how to play Paranoia - just think of worlds like Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, 1984 and Brazil and add in a little Spaceballs humour.  It's dystopian, but it's FUN dystopian!  In fact, knowing little about the game when you play enhances the fun (in my opinion).

Barring some kind of major calamity, by this day Bricktown and I should have our kickstarted copies of Xia: Legends of a Drift System.  We'd like to run a game at 6:30 for us and two more players, estimated play time of 3 hours.

Brittani, you're in.

Some clarifications:
- we'll be playing first edition.  I looked at third edition (aka Paranoia XP) and it will take me too long to get up to speed :)  I don't think the edition is all that important in this game since it's the setting that dominates the fun.
- bring your own percentile dice if you can.  I'll bring some spare sets for those who may lack polyhedral dice.
- bring a clipboard and some scrap paper.  I'll give out pregenerated characters.
- we'll start orientation promptly at 6:30.  I estimate about 20, maybe 25 minutes to briefly go over the setting, and have a brief conversation with each player about special situations.  The adventure is a 1- to 2-hour one so we should be done by 9 pm.

I'll post a little blurb on the game world (Alpha Complex) and the basics you should know - I'll try to get it up by the end of the week.

Quite a few people approached me last night advising they couldn't play Paranoia on the 21st, or that 6:30 pm didn't work for them.  If there's enough demand I'd be happy to run another session and it could be later in the evening.  Maybe in December?  Let me know if you'd be interested.

Victory requires respect for all the gods - players cannot afford to sacrifice to only one god, but must pay homage to each of five gods in turn. Each turn, the players bid for the favors of the gods, as only one player can have the favor of each god per turn - and each player is also limited to the favor of a single god per turn.
Ares allows the movement of player armies and the building of Fortresses.
Poseidon allows players to move their navies and build Ports.
Zeus allows his followers to hire priests and build temples.
Athena provides her worshipers with philosophers and universities.
Apollo increases the income of his worshipers.

oh, and the C3K expansion will be in use.......be prepared for mummies and death scarabs.

5 players starting at 6:30

I'm going to be bringing Seasons for 6:30 (4 players, 120 minutes) And Summoner Wars and Lords of War for 8:30pm , they are both 1vs1 games. If anyone is interested in either of these at 8:30, just let me know.

(https://sask.games/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fcf.geekdo-images.com%2Fimages%2Fpic1299390_md.jpg&hash=ac80ad21ba4eb6049bd071b77723890dcb9e6b20)The greatest sorcerers of the kingdom have gathered at the heart of the Argos forest, where the legendary tournament of the 12 seasons is taking place. At the end of the three year competition, the new archmage of the kingdom of Xidit will be chosen from among the competitors. Take your place, wizard! Equip your ancestral magical items, summon your most faithful familiars to your side and be ready to face the challenge! Seasons is a tactical game of cards and dice which takes place in two phases:

The first phase "Prelude" consists of a card draft: the goal during this phase will be to establish own 9-card deck for the main part of the game and with it the strategy. Once the Prelude is complete, each player must separate his 9 cards into 3 packs of 3 cards. He will begin the second phase of the game with his first pack of three cards, then gradually as the game progresses, he will receive the other two packets of three cards.

Next comes the Tournament: at the beginning of each round a player will roll the seasons dice (dice = number of players +1).
These cubes offer a variety of actions to the players:
- Increase your summoning gauge (maximum number of cards you may have placed on the table and in play)
- Harvesting energy (water, earth, fire, air) to pay the cost of power cards
- Crystallizing the energy to collect crystals. Crystals serve both as a resource to pay for some cards, but also as victory points in the end.
- Draw new cards

Each player can choose only one die per turn. The die not chosen by anyone determines how many fields the "time track" would move forward. In addition, all the dice are different depending on the season. For example, there are not the same energies to a particular season. Throughout the game, players will therefore have to adapt to these changes - also the "exchange rates" of energy to crystals vary during seasons - the energy not present on the dice in any given season is also the best paid during the season. At the end of the game, the crystals are summed with victory points granted by the cards (minus some penalties, where applicable). The highest score wins.

(https://sask.games/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fcf.geekdo-images.com%2Fimages%2Fpic1844722_md.jpg&hash=35218497fa030c6ad61bd2fedff3295c14f4963f)In Lords of War players use hands of six cards (called units) drawn from their army deck of 36 cards. A player turn starts with one card placed onto a gridded board. With the exception of ranged and spear units, cards must be placed adjacent to an enemy unit. An elimination phase follows in which you check for the elimination of opposing cards and the one you just placed. Cards have unique formations of attack arrows on their edges and corners signifying which adjacent cards they attack once played and the damage they will do. Each card also has a defense value which when exceeded by opposing cards sees that card defeated. Once combat has been resolved, the player can then either draw a new card from his army deck or retrieve a unit from the board that has not engaged in combat during that turn. Play continues until one player has eliminated twenty units or four commanders.

Players take on the role of Summoners: powerful beings who harness the power of mysterious Summoning Stones to lead their race to conquest on the war-torn planet of Itharia. These Summoners wield terrible magic on the battlefield, freezing their foes in place, draining their enemies of power, and even bringing rains of fire down from the heavens. But most notoriously, they summon their great race's hordes of warriors to the battlefield, to clash in the never-ending struggle for supremacy. A Summoner is both mage and general, and must combine their wizardly might with clever tactics to defeat the enemy Summoner on the opposite side of the battle.

Most nights games are scheduled for 6:30 or 8:30 (as most games average at 2 hours to play) I can put you down for either, do you have a preference? There's nothing posted yet for 8:30, so there is a better chance to find players at that time this week. Let us know and we'll post it on the first post! :D

One more spot left for this bad boy:

Xia: Legends of a Drift System is a 3-5 player sandbox style competitive space adventure. Each player starts as a lowly but hopeful captain of a small starship.

Players fly their ships about the system, completing a variety of missions, exploring new sectors and battling other ships. Navigating hazardous environments, players choose to mine, salvage, or trade valuable cargo. Captains vie with each other for Titles, riches, and most importantly Fame.

The most adaptive, risk taking, and creative players will excel. One captain will rise above the others, surpassing mortality by becoming Legend!

Customize: Each player begins the game by choosing and customizing a Tier 1 starship. Invest all your money in engines and be a rapid, yet fragile, explorer. Put all your credits into an uber missile and watch other players flee in terror. Get a small engine and save space and credits to invest in buying and selling cargo. Or create a well rounded ship, ready for anything. In Xia, the choice is always yours.

Adapt: The goal of Xia is to become the most famous captain. Completing missions, besting ships in combat, purchasing higher tier ships, selling Cargo Cubes and claiming Titles are all ways that players can earn Fame Points. The best pilots will adapt to their surroundings, making snap judgments and changing plans on-the-fly. If you can think on your feet, you'll do well in Xia!

Sandbox: The real fun of Xia is that each game will be different. There is no set direction of play, players may choose to be peaceful traders, fierce pirates, workers, miners, opportunists, etc. The game board is randomly laid out and explored each time you play. Players might choose not to explore at all, creating a tiny arena for swift and deadly combat, or explore all 21 sectors and have a large play-scape to exploit. It's up to you!

Unfortunately, myself and Jay will have to withdraw from Seasons.  We've convinced a couple more friends to come out with us so will likely just end up showing the new people Dead of Winter.  Sorry NeikeDjour.

Hey everyone,

Just a new ChewsDay Challenge policy going forward:

Due to the overwhelming success of ChewsDay Challenge we might need to limit table space in the early evening if attendance is high and the restaurant is busy. We ask that larger-sized games be planned after Boston Pizza's dinner rush (7:30 and later) when we can spill out into the dining area, if needed, and with the restaurant's permission. Please be considerate when choosing your table area to maximize player density. Thank you for helping make ChewsDay Challenge a success!

Still room for 3 more for Paranoia (not just 2 as the game listing indicates).  I'd love to have this full as it will be a fun time.

Thanks,

Jim
