Warhammer and Warhammer 40K is a table-top miniatures game produced by Games Workshop. Warhammer is the fantasy based game. 40K is the science fiction based game. In either, players select an army, assemble and paint their miniatures, and then go toe-to-toe in against another player. Game styles and length varies, but regardless of the armies and style of play, Warhammer and Warhammer 40K is a very attractive game when on the table.

Warcasters possess significant martial prowess of their own as well as having hardened warriors and magical spells to bring to bear. Players collect, assemble, and paint fantastically detailed models representing the varied warriors, machines, and creatures in their armies. Maximum Players: 24

There are 3 rounds to the tournament. They consist of:
- 1 Preliminary Games (6 table of 4 people)
- 1 Semi-Final Game (4 tables of 3 people)
- 1 Championship Game (1 table of 4 people)

Tournament Format

We will run 6 tables with 4 players, each will play 1 game. The 2 players with the most points from each table will move on to the second tier.

Those 12 players will go on to play a Semi-Final match - 4 tables of 3 players.

The winner from each table moves on to the Championship match, for a final game of 4 players. The winner of the Championship match will get the grand prize: A limited edition PGX "Tournament Winner" mug!

Time limit: No game will go longer than 90 minutes. After one table has completed their game the other games must be concluded within 15 minutes (but we will allow at least 60 minutes to complete your game).

If we do not make our 24 player roster we will make amendments on the fly.

:excited

Also, if anyone can help, we'll need a few extra copies of the game.

We are pleased to announce that Food for Learning will be running the kitchen again. Please support this organization.

Bagel and Eggers are back on the menu!!!

Also, if you have any Canadian Tire money laying around bring it by and donate it to them. Food for Learning uses the CT money to run a hotdog fundraiser outside Canadian Tire (yes, they pay for the space).

We have been a little slow announcing events, but trust us, we are talking with a lot of community organizers to help out with everything. We are working on some tournaments and demos which include: Warhammer Fantasy and 40K, Netrunner, Marvel Dice Masters,  Dungeons & Dragons Next, Warmachine, Pathfinder and more.

If you'd like to run a game of any kind please post on this forum and we'll start it rolling.

As always, I'd love to try and run a longer game, either Ikusa or Talisman. That being said, I'm only going to bring them out if I get enough interest ahead of time. Failing that, I'll be bringing some of my usual stock.

X-Wing: 75 Point Tournament

DESCRIPTION
Compete against other players in this Swiss style tournament of X-Wing: Star Wars Miniatures.

Squad
- The total point value of your squad (ship, pilot, upgrades, etc) cannot exceed 75 points.
- You must chose a faction. Rebel or Imperials. You cannot mix factions to build your squad.
- A squad list must be submitted when you arrive for the event. That means, no squad building when you arrive. Have your squad built in advance. The tournament organizer will review your squad.
- Bring the required components from the X-Wing core set-- maneuver dials, range rulers, asteroids, damage cards, etc.

Game Play
- Players will be randomly matched for the first round robin game. Additional pairings are based on your results from the previous games.
- There is 75 minute time limit per game. 15 minutes for set-up / deployment. 60 minutes for the game.
- A five minute warning will be given. At the time of the warning, if you have not started a turn you will end your game. If you are in the midst of a turn you will finish that turn and then end the game.
- The number of matches played is determined by the number of players. If we have 8 players, for example, there will be 3 rounds of games and then the final match between the top 2 players.
- A rule book will be on hand for reference, but two event organizers will be on hand for rule clarifications. If need be, the final say on rules will be provided by ComicReaders' Chad Boudreau, who plays X-Wing but is not participating in the event.
- Official Fantasy Flight Tournament rules can be found at http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/x-wing/support/faq/X-Wing-Tournament-Rules.pdf (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/x-wing/support/faq/X-Wing-Tournament-Rules.pdf)

Points
Match Win = 5 tournament points
Modified Match Win = 3 tournament points
Draw = 1 tournament point
Match Loss = 0 tournament points

Prizes
- Every player will receive an alternate art pilot card.
- The top player will receive the choice of a set of acrylic tokens or a $20 gift certificate to ComicReaders.
- The second place player will receive whatever the first place player did not choose.

TIME
10:30 AM - 3:00pm

EVENT ATTENDANCE LIMITS
This event supports 10 players. Pre-register by posting on this forum on calling the store. 779-0900.

(https://sask.games/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fcf.geekdo-images.com%2Fimages%2Fpic1324609_md.jpg&hash=ece0a8c8f180307da932fa1550151494d2efba64)Android: Netrunner is an asymmetrical Living Card Game for two players. Set in the cyberpunk future of Android and Infiltration, the game pits a megacorporation and its massive resources against the subversive talents of lone runners.

Corporations seek to score agendas by advancing them. Doing so takes time and credits. To buy the time and earn the credits they need, they must secure their servers and data forts with "ice". These security programs come in different varieties, from simple barriers, to code gates and aggressive sentries. They serve as the corporation's virtual eyes, ears, and machine guns on the sprawling information superhighways of the network.

In turn, runners need to spend their time and credits acquiring a sufficient wealth of resources, purchasing the necessary hardware, and developing suitably powerful ice-breaker programs to hack past corporate security measures. Their jobs are always a little desperate, driven by tight timelines, and shrouded in mystery. When a runner jacks-in and starts a run at a corporate server, he risks having his best programs trashed or being caught by a trace program and left vulnerable to corporate countermeasures. It's not uncommon for an unprepared runner to fail to bypass a nasty sentry and suffer massive brain damage as a result. Even if a runner gets through a data fort's defenses, there's no telling what it holds. Sometimes, the runner finds something of value. Sometimes, the best he can do is work to trash whatever the corporation was developing.

Layne and Chad Boudreau are playing Android: Netrunner at 11:00am and invite other Netrunner players to join them. The more players the better as this will be an opportunity to showcase the game for new players. We hope to see several Netrunner players because we also want to talk about Fantasy Flight's Organized Play program for Netrunner. ComicReaders Downtown has a tournament kit. But in order to run the tournament at a future Prairie Game Expo or other ComicReaders' event we need a tournament organizer and tournament judge. Both Layne and Chad are too new to the game to fill those roles.

Each player leads a faction of survivors with dozens of different characters in the game.

Dead of Winter is a meta-cooperative psychological survival game. This means players are working together toward one common victory condition — but for each individual player to achieve victory, he must also complete his personal secret objective. This secret objective could relate to a psychological tick that's fairly harmless to most others in the colony, a dangerous obsession that could put the main objective at risk, a desire for sabotage of the main mission, or (worst of all) vengeance against the colony! Certain games could end with all players winning, some winning and some losing, or all players losing. Work toward the group's goal, but don't get walked all over by a loudmouth who's looking out only for his own interests!

Dead of Winter is an experience that can be accomplished only through the medium of tabletop games. It's a story-centric game about surviving through a harsh winter in an apocalyptic world. The survivors are all dealing with their own psychological imperatives, but must still find a way to work together to fight off outside threats, resolve crises, find food and supplies, and keep the colony's morale up.

Dead of Winter has players making frequent, difficult, heavily- thematic, wildly-varying decisions that often have them deciding between what is best for the colony and what is best for themselves.

Starting at 10am!

Murray, I am interested but I'm running a D&D expedition starting at 5pm. That's going to take a couple hours so I'll have to pass this time.  Hard to believe there isn't enough time in a 12 hour event to play all the games I want to play!

There will be no Warhammer fantasy tournament at this Prairie Game Expo.

But there will be two tables reserved for ComicReaders Downtown's Warhammer League games. League games played at Prairie Game Expo count as an in-store game.

Those tables can also be used for casual games. For example, if some players want to try out the newly revised rules.

I'd like to learn Android Netrunner, as long as it's fine to join with no knowledge of the game.
It's too bad you have to own your own copy to get into the Marvel Dice Masters tournament. =/

I'd really LOVE to bring out Myth. I got my copy about a week ago, and I'm still sorting out all the pieces and reading the (60+ page!) rulebook. I am hoping to get a test playthrough this week before PGX. I'm dubbing it Diablo the boardgame. Lol. I hope I can find at least one player to test it out with me. I have no specific time in mind, I figure if there is someone(or multiple people) that want to try it out with me, we can work out a schedule. It can play up to 5. Should take around 3 hours, depending on amount of players and how long each player takes to complete a turn, it could be longer.

(https://sask.games/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fcf.geekdo-images.com%2Fimages%2Fpic1721040_lg.jpg&hash=26abc201ebb74bbbf1b27ac02042e7df41e888e7)Myth is a fully co-operative fantasy game. Players take on the role of one of 5 different heroes working together to defeat the Darkness. Each hero has a different skill set which represented by a unique deck of cards. Players spend Action Points by using cards. Once a certain amount of Action Points have been spent the Darkness fights back by activating monster lairs, spawning monster captains and eventually the Boss.

Players' avatars within a Story are called Heroes. Myth Heroes are clothed in immense power, able to reave all but the mightiest foes. However, this power must be balanced lest the Darkness take too much notice. Players must weigh their actions against the Threat each will bring, with the consequences of awakening more evil and bringing doom on the party's endeavors. And be careful they must, as the Darkness is formidable and eager to snatch glory from the valiant.

Heroes are controlled through an intuitive Hero Deck. Each deck plays uniquely and allows players more freedom of action and the ability to truly impact the Story each and every Act. Yet, cooperation is the key to victory and bloody fortune. Players must communicate, interact, and assist each other or surely the Darkness will cover all.

Myth is a fully cooperative game. There is no player controlling the Darkness. The Darkness is governed by a set of rules unique to each Boss Deck and is activated through Hero actions. If the Heroes get overzealous, then the Darkness pushes back by activating Lairs, spawning Captains, and punishing the Heroes with devious Events. If the Heroes take a more subtle approach, then the Darkness reacts by reducing the potential for treasure and rewards. Without the treasures and equipment to upgrade, the Heroes will find each Act more difficult and eventually fail. The dynamic nature of the Darkness really lends a more fluid feel to the Story. Players aren't being driven by properties out of their control, nor are they being shepherded by a person whose skill has a direct impact on the enjoyment of the game.

Myth is a fun fantasy romp where players feel truly heroic. In the playing of the game, the players are creating their own mythos. These stories are the ones carried away from the table, becoming myths themselves. And these are the myths, with friends and family, that we carry with us; telling and retelling our endeavors at the mead benches, earning treasured smiles and laughter.

Alright, are you planning on staying the whole day? If so, maybe we should schedule it for later in the day like around 3-4pm. We can schedule it earlier as well, I just figure a lot of games will be posted for early afternoon and that's the best time for being able to drop in on games. :)

I have a copy, now I need to find it :)

Great. Let me know if you can't find it.

I'm embarrassed to bring out my own copy. The dog ate part of it. I spilled beer on some of it. And I've lost pieces so I made awesome doodles on blank tiles to replace them.  :(

After reviewing the amount of time the Settlers tournament will take I've decided to shorten the tournament. There will only be 1 game in the preliminary, not 2.

If I could get a last minute confirmation on the address of the location? Is it the one on 14th? I've never been there before. Thanks,

Jacob

I'll be showing up sometime between two and three, I think. I will be bringing Impulse to get some plays of it (Thanks Dana for ordering this one in!). I will likely bring compounded, since it has been requested at Chewsday Challenge. See you all tomorrow!

I'd be up for Mega-carc, depending on when you schedule it.

I am thinking from 1pm to 4:30pm. Does that work for you?

Unfortunately not; I'm doing either Tzolk'in or Stone Age at noon then I'm in the Power Grid tourney at 2:00pm. Oh well, some other time then.

Also, I examined my settlers set (it's been years since I've opened that bad boy) and discovered that I had one extra road in one colour, and one fewer in another. If you're lacking in copies of the game still, I coloured the extra one to almost match the colour that was short; it's different enough so as not to be mistaken for any other colour anyways. Other than that and a bit of usage wear on the cards, it's 100% playable still.

Our dog got into garlic in the garbage.  We need to stay home and monitor him and probably take him to another vet before his eye appointment.

(3) Congratulations to the winners of the Settlers of Catan, Power Grid, Warhammer 40K, and X-Wing tournaments.
(4) Big thanks to anyone who taught games at Prairie Game Expo-- whether you were an official Prairie Game Expo Ambassador or an attendee kind enough to invite people to your table.
(5) Thanks to the volunteers who ran the registration table.
(6) Thanks to Chris S, Derek C, Dana, and Brandon for organizing and running tournaments.
(7) Core Ritchie Community Centre was a fantastic venue.

(10) It was good to see so many families and young gamers in attendance!

(12) Congratulations to local game designers Dyson and Jason for releasing their first expansion for Nation: A Mighty Spark. Thanks for bringing it to Prairie Game Expo.
(13) The next Prairie Game Expo is January 17, 2015.
