A question I sometimes get asked when working at ComicReaders Downtown is "What games are played at Chewsday Challenge?"

I direct people to saskgames.com to see the discussion on the Chewsday Challenge forums, and sometimes I'll open up an archived event and read the list of games played the previous week. People are always surprised at the variety of games played. That variety, I think, is one of the strengths of Chewsday Challenge-- games of all sorts for all sorts of gamers.

Another question I sometimes get asked is "Does Game XYZ get played at Chewsday Challenge?" Those people are asking because they've had their eye on that game and want to try it out.

So, if there is a game on your "to play list" but you don't own it, feel free to post on a Chewsday Challenge event thread to ask if someone has it and would be willing to bring it out.

On that note: does anyone have a copy of Caverna they would like to run?

I'll be bringing out Coconuts, it's a fairly short game so we can run multiple games. Chris and I don't have to play in the first few games, we'll probably be searching for errant coconuts flying about. 4 Players, about 20 minutes to play, possibly slightly longer because of stoppage in gameplay due to needing to find the coconuts on the floor. We can run it starting at 7:00.

I would like to run D-Day Dice again, 4 players about an hour and a half starting at 6:30. I am also looking for someone to learn a game with me at 8:30, Quebec 1759, it is a block wargame - only a 2 player game.

Archipelago went over very well last week, so I will trot it out again. I will take the full 5 players this time. 6:30, 150 minutes.

I was going to bring out a couple games, but I think instead I'll hop in on Archipelago.  If enough people are around afterwards, perhaps Galaxy Trucker? Robo Rally? Something else? Who knows?

In the game, players launch coconuts toward a field of cups in the middle of the playing area. Land in a cup, and you get to stack it on your player board; land in a cup on someone else's board, and you get to move it to yours. By playing special "Monkey King Magic" cards, you can force opponents to shoot blind, take long shots, or otherwise bollix their efforts to cup a coconut. Whoever first completes a pyramid of six cups on his player board wins!

Game teacher Lareina Chan is a staff member of ComicReaders Downtown.

Lareina will run multiple games since it is a quick playing game. Start time is 7pm.

They will explore territories, harvest resources, use those resources in markets both internal (for their use and that of the natives) and foreign (to sell it in Europe), build markets, harbors, cities and temples, and negotiate among themselves (and maybe betray each other) – all this to complete their secret objectives. They will also need to guess the secret objective of the other players to be able to benefit from them.

But players also need to be careful of the natives; if they make them too unhappy or if too many of them are unoccupied, they could revolt and declare independence. Then everyone will lose!

Game teacher Marc Bendig is one of the Chewsday Challenge Ambassadors. He has taught many games at Chewsday Challenge.

Start time is 6:30pm.

You must do something!

In D-Day Dice, players are Allied soldiers trying to organize improvised units for an attack against the machine gun nest. Each player starts the game with a unit of a few soldiers and nothing else. As the game progresses, he will collect resources and advance on the beach, sector by sector, as his unit grows stronger and deadlier. He will succeed...or die trying.

D-Day Dice is a multiplayer co-op game, where all players play their turn simultaneously and must help each other in order to stay alive. It also includes solitaire optional rules. Although built around dice rolling, this game is about resource management (soldiers, specialists, items and courage) and knowing when to move your unit. Resources are kept from turn to turn, so the players can plan ahead.

Game teacher prairieguy (Murray) is the newest addition to the Chewsday Challenge Ambassador team!

I can't sit in on D-Day Dice because I'll be flinging coconuts with my kids at 7pm, but I would highly recommend D-Day Dice for anyone that enjoys cooperative games, tense games, and war games.

I'd love to play archipelago again, if Chewsday Etiquette allows.  I played last week, so if someone new wants to play I will step aside.

But I'm down for Agricola after, either way. :)

For what it's worth, I'm trying various worker placement strategies at the day job but it's not working so well. Meeples won't stand still.  :D

Well, I'm scheduled for Archipelago, so it could start as soon as that's done.  I guess that would be 9pm.  Five player max, probably a two hour play time, to be on the safe side.

I would like to be in on the second game of Coconuts, if there are enough people interested in playing.

And Tempest, could you bring out Penny Arcade:Rumble in R'lyeh on a night when you would have time to teach it/play it? Thanks!

QuoteArchipelago please (again, unless there are new people who wish to try it)!

I appreciate your willingness to step aside (and the other players that have said likewise) if new players want to try Archipelago, but there isn't really a need. The purpose of this forum is to allow people to plan their evenings. If there is a game you want to play, the best thing to do is post and reserve your spot. If someone does not check the forum or checks the forum but waits too long then they miss out. Someone who missed out can ask that the game make another appearance, which it then usually does.
