*** ChewsDay Challenge ***
(https://sask.games/gallery/1_11_09_12_10_24_41.gif)

What: The ChewsDay Challenge series of events is part of an initiative to host a public weekly game night that is welcoming to new members and is a way for people new to boardgames to experience a beginner friendly atmosphere. A opportunity for people new to designer board games or veterans of the hobby to come out, meet 'n' greet, and play some games.   This is held at a great location with full food and beverage service. Come on out and try some games.

The venue is also a great place for Wargamers and Strategy Gamers to come out and play a game. There are some titles that are hard to get to the table, let's try to get them the attention they deserve at a ChewsDay Challenge.

Where: North Albert St. Boston Pizza (Regina) (http://sask.games/index.php?topic=2043.0)

When: Every ChewsDay night of course, see date on this post for this particular event.

Who: Anyone interested in playing boardgames. The venue is suitable for many different styles of games: (Wargames, Euro Games, Crokinole, Chess, Go, Scrabble, Backgammon, etc.)

Why: Life is Short; Play Games!

Although not necessary, we urge you to post in this thread if you are coming and what games you might bring or would like to play. Prearranging some games helps get some of the harder titles to the table. Perhaps you have seen someone post about a game in THIS THREAD (http://sask.games/index.php?topic=1799.0), this might be an opportunity to get them to bring out the game and show you.

If you are new to the gaming scene in the City of Regina, come on out and meet some others. Feel free to come a bit early and grab a bite to eat. See you there!!!  :excited

Every ChewsDay Challenge, we will have a Game Host on site to teach a game. This is a great way for new players to experience a game in a beginner friendly environment. The Weekly Game will be set up at 6:15pm and players are urged to be there for 6:30. The feature game will start at 6:45pm. Note: A number of us go early (5ish) to grab a bite to eat, you are welcome to join us.

Without further adieu, here is the Game Host of the week:

There are lots of people bringing games out to play on ChewsDay Challenge Game Nights. To help attendees maximize their gaming experience we can help schedule games into slots for planning purposes. Post in the thread if you want to schedule a game and have folks sign up in advance. There are TWO basic time slots for this. 6:30pm time slot and 8:30pm. This is the start time for these games. They will be set up earlier. If you sign up for a game, please be there at least 15 minutes prior to start or your seat may be given to someone else. This is not mandatory, casual open gaming is still very much encouraged as well. Whether you wish to plan your game night or just show up and play it by ear, game on...

In Libertalia, you must thwart the plans of competitive pirates over the course of three rounds while using cards that show the same crew members as your piratical comrades-in-arms. Yes, not only do they attack the same ships, but they employ the same type of ravenous scum that you do! Can you take advantage of the powers of your characters at the right time? Will you be outdone by a pirate smarter than you? Jump into the water and prove your tactical skills!

Plus we can drink rum and speak like pirates.....or not, just saying.

From Bruno Faidutti's website:
This one, designed with Bruno Cathala, started with the theme. We wanted to make a game about colonizing Mars, with shuttles leaving the blue planet towards the red one. The theme is strong, and well caught in the steampunk graphic style decided by Asmodée. In Mission: Red Planet, each player plays a colonial power which sends astronauts, in space shuttles, to occupy the most promising zones on the planet. For scholars, the systems merge a majority game, à la El Grande or San Marco, with a character/action card system, somewhere between Citadels and Hoity Toity/Adel Verpflichtet.

Cordawg, if that's your real name, I have added Samurai Swords to the first post looking for players to sign up. I hope you get some more interest -- I'd like to see more epic games played at ChewsDay Challenge. As an ambassador to the event I will not be able to try it out.   :(

Thanks for starting the "sign up" for Samurai Swords. Hopefully, we can twist a few other arms to play this epic game, as it will be a lot less enjoyable with only two players (just Cory and me so far). Look inside yourself and see if there is a fierce warrior waiting to be released.  :D

ATTENDANCE: 23 People

GAMES PLAYED: Smash Up, Libertalia, Las Vegas, Samurai Swords, Backgammon, Forbidden Island, Dominion, Mission: Red Planet, Octi, Code 777, Ricochet Robots

ANNOUNCEMENTS: The last ChewsDay Challenge of 2012 was a success. It was good to see a group of four playing Samurai Swords. Classic games need love too. Just a reminder that there will NOT be a ChewsDay Challenge event on Dec 25th or Jan 1st. The next event is on Jan 8th, 2012. Also, that is the night we will do the monthly draw.

We also announced that due to the continued success and growth of this event, we are asking people to please only bring a few games out each night instead of large bundles. Our events are well attended and space is at a bit of a premium. We want the space to be used to play games as much as possible so large boxes of games sometimes take up valuable room that could be used for playing. If you are interested in selling or trading game with other attendees, you are encouraged to work out the details of any deals (trades, sales) with people prior to coming to ChewsDay Challenge. That way you can simply bring the games you are selling or trading instead of a large bundle of games. We have plans to grow this event even more in the days ahead and want to make sure that the focus and space is used for playing games. Thanks for your understanding.

Also, if you have any thoughts or feedback about these events, send an email to ChewsDayChallenge@SaskGames.com

The ChewsDay Challenge Crew wishes you all a very Merry Christmas and a great holiday season. See you all in 2013!  :excited
