If you would like to schedule a game. Please post in this event thread with the following information:
Name of the game, when you would like to start, The duration of the game, and the number of players it can accommodate.

Due to the overwhelming success of ChewsDay Challenge we might need to limit table space in the early evening if attendance is high and the restaurant is busy. We ask that larger-sized games be planned for 7:30 and later after Boston Pizza's dinner rush when we can spill out into the dining area, if needed, and with the restaurant's permission.  Please be considerate when choosing your table area to maximize player density. Thank you for helping make ChewsDay Challenge a success!

I've had requests to run Paranoia again so I'll run a 150-minute game at 8:30 pm.  Bring your own percentile dice, pencil and paper and a clipboard if you can - I'll supply paper and dice to those that need them.

We'll play first edition (not that edition matters terribly in this game, but it's what I'm used to) and characters will be supplied.  A brief character orientation will occur prior to actual play commencing.  I have room for myself as GM plus six additional players (seven total).

Paranoia
"Stay Alert! Trust no one! Keep your laser handy!"

"Greetings Citizen!"

Paranoia is the RPG that turned RPGs on their head. Instead of players co-operating on their adventures, in Paranoia they actively betray, lie, cheat and kill each other numerous times...accidently of course. The main aim of the game is comedy.

The game is set in a post-nuclear holocaust future of domed cities run by mega-computers. The players are Troubleshooters, clones with five other siblings who quickly step in when they are killed (nobody lasts very long in Paranoia). The PCs and NPCs live in an extremely strict colour coded hierarchy of Security Clearance, with Infra-Red submissive to Orange, which answers to Yellow and so on. Everybody, and I mean everybody, is insanely paranoid. The slightest mistake, the merest hint of treachery, could mean immediate execution. Because inside the dome, nobody knows that the war with the Commies was over centuries ago.

Players are subjected to constant propaganda 'The Computer Is Your Friend', encouraged to inform on their colleagues in special recording booths (which often broadcast the message by mistake), are given strange equipment without proper instructions, take pills, hide their secret allegiances and mutations and generally desperately try to survive.

The adventures are hopeless, ill-informed, pointless and suicidal missions which open with a briefing and end with a de-briefing, a golden opportunity to grass up the other players with highly subjective reports.

Being promoted to Orange Clearance gives a player enormous control over the others. Defying an order is Treason = immediate execution.

The GM is directly encouraged to kill PCs on any whim. PCs should be accused of Treason constantly, kept in ignorance and fear and generally shouted at and trampled on at all times (it's okay, they love it). To quote the rules "Ignorance. Fear. Fear and ignornace. Dedicate yourself to these principles." As it says on the back cover, Catch-22 meets 1984!

First edition is a box set and contains mostly GM information; players are not encouraged to buy the rules or read the source material. In first edition there are a lot of rules,  but you can mostly ignore them and run the game how you like. The GM can simply roll a bunch of dice behind a screen and say whatever they want anyway. All part of the paranoia. It's worth reading the book to immerse yourself in the theme and setting. There are lots of good catch phrases and tricks to pull on players.

THE COMPUTER IS YOUR FRIEND!

Citizen, you are not authorized to read this. Please report to the nearest termination center. Thank you.

I picked up a couple of games that I'd like to bring out, this week.

To start the night I'll have the new bluffing game Sheriff of Nottingham with me. It's the first in the Dice Tower Essentials line and features bluffing, hand management and some light role playing (very light). Everyone plays merchants trying to deliver goods to the market though not all of the goods are exactly "legal." And unfortunately for everyone, the Sheriff is doing his best to keep out the contraband (unfortunate because you get more gold for contraband). Players take turns as the Sheriff, being given pouches of goods (cards) from each player and trying to determine whether they're lying about their contents or not. If the Sheriff catches you, you've got to cough up the gold but if you're innocent and have been unfairly accused then it's the Sheriff's turn to pay. Though you can always try bribing the Sheriff to leave you be (or to go after another player).

The game accommodates 5 players and takes an hour. It's pretty straight forward, a lot of fun, and everyone's welcome to give it a try.

(5 players, 60 minutes at 6:30)

Prince John's lust for gold has finally gone too far! It's impossible for a merchant to make a living anymore, being taxed as much as we are. Now he's got the greedy Sheriff of Nottingham checking everyone who comes through the front gate for "contraband" – meaning all the good stuff he's trying to keep for himself ! Good thing you know the Sheriff better than Prince John does. That shifty, no-good, greedy fellow might be intimidating when he stands in front of the city gate, but let's be honest, he is not above taking a well-placed bribe to look the other way.
You have come to Nottingham with your Goods on market day, and the only thing standing between you and your hard-earned profits is the Sheriff. All you need to do is bluff or bribe your way past him... or maybe, tell the truth!
In Sheriff of Nottingham, you are a merchant trying to deliver your Goods to market. Players take turns assuming the role of Sheriff, who must decide which merchants' bags to inspect and which to let by. As a merchant, your goal is to convince the Sheriff to let you in—by any means necessary! At the end of the game, the merchant with the most wealth wins!

Next up will be the new edition of the abstract, city-building game Medina. I've got to say that on top of it being fun, the look of this game is just really great, too. It technically features "tile" placement (along with area control and some hand management) but in this case the tiles are three-dimensional wooden pieces and you're building a city of palaces. A turn consists of players each placing two pieces on the board, often either starting to construct a new palace or adding on to an existing one. While a palace must stay the same colour, every player has pieces of every colour so anyone can keep adding to each palace (as long as they have pieces left and space to build). But once a player puts a roof on a building they claim it and all of the points involved. So there's a strong push-your-luck element - do you want to keep adding to a building to get higher points or claim it early to make sure you get any points. Plus your roofs (which complete palaces) are limited. There are numerous other ways to get your score higher, including placing various other landmarks and merchants.

It accommodates up to 4 players and everyone's is welcome to try it out.

(4 players, 60 minutes at 8:30)

The year is 1822. After years of decay, it is time to rebuild the medina, located at the foot of the Atlas mountains. The architects and engineers of the city work to erect large and beautiful palaces and to renovate the damaged city wall. As the reconstruction of the old city progresses, the city's inhabitants flock through the alleys, and the contours of the new city gradually reappear!

GAME: Praetor (http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/137776/praetor)
TEACHER: Lori
START TIME: 8:30
DURATION: 120 Minutes
PLAYERS: 4 (it will play 5 if someone really wants to get in but I'm suggesting 4 in consideration of table space and time)

"It's the year 122 CE and the Roman Empire is at its glorious peak. Caesar Hadrian is no longer waging war against the Barbarians, but building cities and fortifications to ensure a lengthy domination of the Roman culture and wealth.

The southern part of Britain is under Roman domination, and Caesar has already begun the construction of Hadrian's Wall to protect the empire from invasions from the North. Together with the wall, Caesar has ordered the founding of a new city which will remind the locals of the glory of Rome. He has appointed five of his most trusted men to take resources and workers from Rome and to build the city together – but in the end only one of them will be appointed Praetor and rule the Province in the name of Caesar.

In Praetor you will take the role of a Roman engineer and you will work together with the other players to build a magnificent city. You will manage your limited resources wisely and look for new ones, you will recruit new workers while your old experienced ones will retire, you will build settlements to keep the population happy and you will praise the Gods to earn their favor. Caesar will reward you if you give away precious resources to build Hadrian's Wall thus increasing your chances of becoming Praetor.

Every turn you will place your Workers on previously built city tiles to gain resources, morale, new workers or favor points. You may also assign workers to build new city tiles or spend resources to meet Caesar's demands to gain favor points. At the end of each turn, you will have to pay your workers. Otherwise, the mood in the city will deteriorate.

Most of the actions your workers perform will help them gain experience. They will become increasingly skilled in collecting resources. Your most experienced workers will eventually retire and bring you additional favor points but you will still have to show solidarity and pay them until the end of the game."

As one of the moderators for the Chewsday Challenge events, I'd just caution that with CO2 at 6:30, and assuming CO2 does take the 120 minutes it's scheduled for, there won't be time in between for Corey to set up and teach Kanban before having to join Paranoia at 8:30.  Maybe another night for Kanban, guys, just so we can keep Paranoia on time?

Alternatively, maybe Rosencrantz or someone else would be able to learn the rules beforehand so that Corey doesn't have to spend time teaching it.  Here are the rules for Kanban. (http://files.geekdo.com/geekfile_download.php?filetype=application%2Fpdf&filename=Kanban_eng_Rulebook_BGG_v1.0.pdf&filecode=pytlq3bxi4&validationcode=f31779cf205292f5f0c0d27588b656a3)

Thanks, guys.  Just trying to make sure all the games can reasonably stick to their scheduled times.

Hm.   I have read the rules as well as watched a pretty thorough playthrough (links for those interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBkanaAvnz8 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBkanaAvnz8) and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzgUodQZnPs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzgUodQZnPs)) so could probably cover for Corey.

Or we could just try to schedule another day in the new year.  I will extend my bribe to Corey and perhaps I can get a Vinhos/Kanban team up going.

Whatever people want to do I'm cool with.

Hey, me and Brad are going to drop out of CO2 because there has been some interest in Dead of Winter and we haven't played it in a long time! We will instead host Dead of Winter at 7:00 for 2-4 people to save some table space and time - 90 minutes (but could be shorter or a bit longer, but not much).

GAME: Mice & Mystics
TEACHER: prairieguy
START TIME: 8:00
DURATION: 120 Minutes
PLAYERS: 4

In Mice and Mystics players take on the roles of those still loyal to the king – but to escape the clutches of Vanestra, they have been turned into mice! Play as cunning field mice who must race through a castle now twenty times larger than before. The castle would be a dangerous place with Vanestra's minions in control, but now countless other terrors also await heroes who are but the size of figs. Play as nimble Prince Collin and fence your way past your foes, or try Nez Bellows, the burly smith. Confound your foes as the wizened old mouse Maginos, or protect your companions as Tilda, the castle's former healer. Every player will have a vital role in the quest to warn the king, and it will take careful planning to find Vanestra's weakness and defeat her.
Mice and Mystics is a cooperative adventure game in which the players work together to save an imperiled kingdom. They will face countless adversaries such as rats, cockroaches, and spiders, and of course the greatest of all horrors: the castle's housecat, Brodie. Mice and Mystics is a boldly innovative game that thrusts players into an ever-changing, interactive environment, and features a rich storyline that the players help create as they play the game. The Cheese System allows players to hoard the crumbs of precious cheese they find on their journey, and use it to bolster their mice with grandiose new abilities and overcome seemingly insurmountable odds.
Mice and Mystics will provide any group of friends with an unforgettable adventure they will be talking about for years to come – assuming they can all squeak by...

We will instead host Dead of Winter at 7:00 for 2-4 people to save some table space and time - 90 minutes (but could be shorter or a bit longer, but not much).

Can you also reserve one spot for Dana?  Thank you!

yay! Thanks!

I am going to bring out Primordial Soup (Ursuppe), 3 - 6 players (have the Freshly Spiced expansion for addition players 5 and 6), 90 - 120 minutes. I can teach at 8:30.

Also, I'd like to take a spot in Caverna at 6:30!

I am worried that we will not finish dead of winter in time for Paranoia, so me and Brad are going to drop out of Paranoia.  Sorry Jim  :( One day I will get to play it...  I think we should also change the time for dead of winter from 90 minutes to 120 to be safe.  I forgot we had to teach it too, so it will take a little longer than I expected.  Sorry everyone :(

Is it possible to either squeeze me in or put me as a reserve for Dead of Winter? If not it fine but I'd love to give it a try. Let me know & I'll either sign up for another game or bring something to teach. Thanks.

It plays up to 5, so now that we lengthened the time I don't see why we can't play with 5.  I just had it at 4 to save a bit of time.  And I messaged kimberlycupcake because now dead of winter and paranoia are overlapping for time so she is going to have to drop out of dead of winter I think.... Haven't heard back from her yet.  But yes you can play!

DCStyles (Derek) and I will be playing a game of Twilight Struggle around 9 pm in preparation for the Twilight Struggle League that Dana is starting in January.  There are still open spots to join the league so if anyone is on the fence they are certainly encouraged to stop by our table and check out the gameplay

We have 11 people. If we had 1 more I can lock it down. 1 game per month. Beginners welcome!

Confirming for Munchkin Adventure Time. I'll probably bring something for 6:30 as well if there's enough table space, not sure what yet.

As a quick update.  I am for sure able to stick around later today.  I've also managed to grab my own copy of Kanban.  So if people were interested (or still interested Omegadirective ?) in playing KanBan, we can start after CO2.  Plays up to 4 and will take a bit more than 2 hours.   Tyson will be joining me so that leaves room for one more person.

Look forward to some games tonight.

I am going to be held up at work later than usual.  I will still make it to BP for 6:30, but will not be able to swing by home to pick up Archipelago.  So, I will have to cancel Archipelago tonight sadly.  Sorry Damien.

Hi guys (Cory, Bryce, Roxanne and Rosencratz (sorry, don't rember your name!)).

I am sorry that I missed out last night and was unable to give any notice. I left work, dropped one daughter off at dance and then immediately took another to the hospital. I spent the night there with her. She is doing better, but going to have to spend at least one more day there. She has a lung infection of some sort.
