Each player takes the role of an ambitious aristocratic family. Who will be the best supporter of this young king, and the most powerful Lord of his time?

In Lancaster the players want to proceed from simply being a Lord to the most powerful ally of the king. They may achieve this by developing their own knighthood as well as by clever deployment of individual knights in the counties of England, at their own castle, and to conflicts with France. In parliament, they try to push laws from which they will benefit themselves most. The player with the most power points at the end of the game is the winner.

This is a learning game!:

(https://sask.games/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fcf.geekdo-images.com%2Fimages%2Fpic824016_md.jpg&hash=aabc8c17f4abafab9b5323717c2a8866e00169d2)This game is inspired by the Portuguese Age of Discoveries in the 15th-16th century. Players take actions such as contracting men, acquiring ships and buildings, sailing the seas, establishing colonies in discovered lands, trading goods on the market, and getting privileges.

Each player starts with only two ships and three workers and tries to expand his wealth.

There are several undiscovered lands that allow players, once discovered, to found some colonies there. Colonies exist in different places where sugar, gold and spices are available and can be sold to the market to make some money. Money is used to build ships, erect buildings such as factories, shipyards and churches, and to get workers. Workers are necessary to found colonies or to acquire buildings and privileges, which exist in five categories and therefore encourage players to follow different strategies competing with each other.

At the end of the game the player who is most successful in combining his privileges with his achievements (colonies, factories, discoveries, shipyards, and churches) is the winner.

I will bring Maria.  It is a deep and strategic war game, which is unique because it is specifically designed to be played by 3 players.  It has got to be one of my favourite games.  You can watch a video review of it here:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/video/31556/maria/a-review-of-maria-this-one-should-be-rated-much-hi

I think we will be able to finish a game in 3-4 hours (including explanation) so ill aim for a start time of 6:30.

PS there are 2-player rules too, but it is not really worth playing that way, in my opinion.

Wow, great to see Maria coming out. I'm booked into a game already or else I'd get in on that action. Plan for at least 4 hours though....

Hi.  This will be my first time out.  I'd love to give Suburbia a go.   I'm also willing to stay for the late game (Navegador) if you still need another player.

I haven't played Suburbia before, but just watched a video review a week or so ago. Is it OK for a newbie to join in?

Mark

Glad to see someone new coming out!  Chewsday Challenge is all about trying new games and there is usually at least one person at a game who hasn't played before. I've added you to both Suburbia and Navegador

Alrighty, it's been a while since I've brought out smallworld, so I'm gonna bring out underground and some of the expansions; if everyone's comfortable/familiar with the rules I also want to play with tales and legends too. I'm thinking 5 players at 6:30; 6 players if I remember to go grab the six player map. I think I'll follow it up wth Cinque Terre, which I describe as ticket to ride without the trains... Kind of. I'll say 8 pm for that.

Tempest, I looked at your "games to request" link, and found several of interest that I'd like to try out. You're already bringing enough titles for tomorrow, but on a future Chewsday Challenge, would you consider bringing out Pamplona, for starters?

I have probably misjudged the suitability of Maria for this event, mainly due to the length of the game.  Since no one has signed up for it yet, I will withdraw it for tomorrow night.

Please sign me up for Smallworld instead.

Dana/Matt - Since you both seem to be interested in Maria, let me know if you'd like me to bring it out at a future date, or maybe we could schedule a game some weekend.

We both own copies of the game. I find it hard to get Maria to the table these days because of the amount of time it takes to play, but I'd be up for a planned game in the future.

For sure, maybe next Tuesday. I've yet to take it out of the packaging so I'll have to learn it first, but I can probably get it figured out by then.
