*** ChewsDay Challenge ***
(https://sask.games/gallery/1_11_09_12_10_24_41.gif)

What: The ChewsDay Challenge series of events is part of an initiative to host a public weekly game night that is welcoming to new members and is a way for people new to boardgames to experience a beginner friendly atmosphere. A opportunity for people new to designer board games or veterans of the hobby to come out, meet 'n' greet, and play some games.   This is held at a great location with full food and beverage service. Come on out and try some games.

The venue is also a great place for Wargamers and Strategy Gamers to come out and play a game. There are some titles that are hard to get to the table, let's try to get them the attention they deserve at a ChewsDay Challenge.

Where: North Albert St. Boston Pizza (Regina) (http://sask.games/index.php?topic=2043.0)

When: Every ChewsDay night of course, see date on this post for this particular event.

Who: Anyone interested in playing boardgames. The venue is suitable for many different styles of games: (Wargames, Euro Games, Crokinole, Chess, Go, Scrabble, Backgammon, etc.)

Why: Life is Short; Play Games!

Although not necessary, we urge you to post in this thread if you are coming and what games you might bring or would like to play. Prearranging some games helps get some of the harder titles to the table. Perhaps you have seen someone post about a game in THIS THREAD (http://sask.games/index.php?topic=1799.0), this might be an opportunity to get them to bring out the game and show you.

If you are new to the gaming scene in the City of Regina, come on out and meet some others. Feel free to come a bit early and grab a bite to eat. See you there!!!  :excited

Every ChewsDay Challenge, we will have a Game Host on site to teach a game. This is a great way for new players to experience a game in a beginner friendly environment. The Weekly Game will be set up at 6:15pm and players are urged to be there for 6:30. The feature game will start at 6:45pm. Note: A number of us go early (5ish) to grab a bite to eat, you are welcome to join us.

Without further adieu, here is the Game Host of the week:

There are lots of people bringing games out to play on ChewsDay Challenge Game Nights. To help attendees maximize their gaming experience we can help schedule games into slots for planning purposes. Post in the thread if you want to schedule a game and have folks sign up in advance. There are TWO basic time slots for this. 6:30pm time slot and 8:30pm. This is the start time for these games. They will be set up earlier. If you sign up for a game, please be there at least 15 minutes prior to start or your seat may be given to someone else. This is not mandatory, casual open gaming is still very much encouraged as well. Whether you wish to plan your game night or just show up and play it by ear, game on...

If anyone wants to set up a game and find players, now is the perfect time to do it.

Or if you are a member and want to try a game, post it and we'll see if we can wrangle someone into demonstrating it.

I just picked up the brand-spanking-new Spartacus game (based on the TV show) from Comic Readers Downtown.  Apart from not having full frontal nudity on every other card, it looks like the game does a good job of representing the show.  I expect it to be more in line with "Battlestar Galactica" than "24: The DVD Board Game."  Chad mentioned that he saw some people playing it and that it looked good to him.

I plan on bringing this to BPs.  According to the box it accommodates 3-4 players and takes 2-3 hours to play.

Awesome Ryan. What time slot do you want for a start time and I will add a sign up sheet to first post?

My guess is 7:00, but I'll have to get back to you on that before you "officially" schedule it.

I should be coming, not sure if I can commit to a feature game yet. I'll bring Munchkin Quest again + something else. Not sure what yet.

QuoteChad mentioned that he saw some people playing it and that it looked good to him.

I saw it at a retailler convention we attended in September. Board looked very good set up and feedback from people at the table was that they were surprised by the depth in the game (considering it is based on a TV show). If I remember correctly, each player runs a rising house in ancient Rome. You're trying to gain influence, and to do so you're going to develop not only your household, but also scheme against rival players, buy and develop gladiators and then see those gladiators go toe-to-toe with gladiators belonging to other players.

The other thing I remember is that people who played the game on the Friday night requested to have it on the table on the Saturday night.

At the store, we had two people ask about this game in as many days. Word must be getting out about this one.

So, I posted a thread in the League forum here: http://sask.games/index.php?topic=2216.0 but I'm curious if anyone who comes out to the chewsday challenge regularly would be interested in forming a Formula D league, perhaps one that plays once or twice a month, at the chewsday challenge events. Myself, I have four tracks across 2 boards to offer, so someone who had extra tracks would be extra welcome.

I would like to get in on a game of this (Spartacus) if you bring it out. I will be there to start at 7:00pm as your suggested time, or whatever time will work for you. Thanks!

Spartacus: A Game of Blood & Treachery

Notes:
- I'll be starting it at 7:00
- Plays in roughly 2 hours (this will be my first time playing, but that's how it's advertized)
- The game has some f-bombs written on the cards (not surprising if you've seen the show), and the game involves buying slaves (not surprising if you've seen the show), so not for young players
- It's a game based on a TV show but, based on a read-through of the rules, this one's going to be good

Another successful ChewsDay Challenge...

Attendance: 25
Games Played: King of Tokyo, Kingsburg, Hamsterolle, No Thanks, Cambria, Spartacus, Lords of Waterdeep, Castles of Burgundy, Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards: Duel at Mt. Skullzfyre, Ad Astra, Alien Frontiers, Die Sieben Siegel (Wizard Extreme), San Juan, and Lords of Vegas.

The draw for October's gift certificates from ComicReaders & Boston Pizza was conducted at 8pm. The winner of the $25 gift certificate went to Julian Kelly, who was in attendance to accept it. Congrats! Daryl Christianson's name was drawn for the ComicReaders gift card but was not in attendance so the gift certificate will be added to next month's draw -- so a $50 gift card will be given away the first week of December.

Thanks to all that showed up.
